Re: 305 HAS NOW POWER!!! & KILLED 1/2 A TANK OF GAS IN 10 MI

It sounds like you need a new engine.

First off, you won't get power out of a 305 without some serious money, and for the amount of money you'll put into a 305, you could biuld a 350 with at least 100+ HP over the 305. Trust me, I've tried a budget build with a stroked and bored 305, the results aren't worth it.

Second, you're burning through gas at a substantial rate, you said 1/2 a tank in 10 mins?? Your oil is probably flooded with gasoline, your carb likley needs rebuilt, and your valves could be burnt by now. Also, you've been trying to run the motor while it's leaking 2 qt of oil a day?? you're probably going to need main bearings now, and you could've done substantial damage to the bottom end of that engine by doing that.

Also, you said its leaking around the starter?? Check your timing chain cover and see if it's coming from anywhere around there. If not, it could be allot of other places that i'm sure the other guys on here have listed already.

It'll be ALLOT cheaper to pickup a decent/nice 350 and just scrap that 305, it sounds pretty beat.

Sorry but thats some pretty bad advice. No one on the internet can make a diagnosis that someone needs a new motor short of finding out its seized...

Yes we all know the 305 vs 350 debate. I dont think that has anything to do with him wanting to get his engine back to running well.

ok so i ran her on the levled streets she runs fine but up hill she loses ALOT OF POWER AND MY RPMS ARE REALLY high is it because i didnt change the gear ratio on my diff when i replaced the 200 for a 700 r4??????

could it be that your transmission slipping?

I'm skeptical that hes not realizing the difference between the RPMs actually increasing and the motor struggling to get there.

well i was reading everything on this thread and i was just getting really confused, intake bolt missing, wheres it at? intake gasket could be crap, or installed wrong and leaking oil down the back of the block (i did that once before in a hurry) could be valve covers could be rear main seal could be many things, 3 quarts over full? a little oil on the ground looks like alot, maybe a video of the issue could be helping, if you say rpms are going up and losing power and swiching to 700r4 sounds like tv cable is adjusted wrong and or crap trans and it is slipping, thats my thought, but a video of the problem would be very helpful if you could

Re: 305 HAS NOW POWER!!! & KILLED 1/2 A TANK OF GAS IN 10 MI

stomis, My reasoning behind my opinion is because its a 305, with 100K+ miles, losing allot of oil fast, and dumps gas, hard. 305's are dime a dozen. If the motor DOES have serious problems, i think he should just scrap it and pickup something new.

IF it has serious problems, that's why i said he should, not he needs too.

Another thing, i didn't read all of the posts either, it seems like this motor has allot of small issues, I went through this with a 350 i had dude, if you really want to keep this engine, i would just get the car off the road for alittle bit, pull the motor and go over it with a fine tooth comb.

I'm not trying to be negative at all, just saying it might be worth it go with a new motor, on a fresh page. My two cents.

ok so the oil leak stopped it seems like its struggling to get there not rpms like dude said and it wont run over 55 thee transmission dont feel like its slipping i was thinking that maybe the tv cable needs to be adjusted as well the guiy that switched my transmission said it would do that if i didnt switch my ratio and a differential builder said different that i wouldnt need to so whats causing me to lose powerr up hill????
