There is a set of numbers stamped into the rear axle tube that tells what ratio is in the axle from the factory. It is on the passenger's side and you would have to be in between the front and rear wheels looking up to see it. It faces the front of the car. You probably will need to scrape the rust and undecoating off the axle to find it if it has not rusted away. The sticker is mounted like the jacking instructions label on the underside of the trunk lid. If you can't see it when you open the trunk, it's not there.

OK, That does not correspond to any axle code in either my GM or Haynes manual sets. The problem is, the first digit should be a number, but the second and third digits, which are the actual axle code, should be letters. All of the codes I have in my books begin either with A, B, or C. The sample code given in the books is "2ABO1032" with "2AB" being the ratio code and LSD or open diff, "O" being manufacturer, "103" is the day built (probably a Julian Date) and "2" being the shift during which it was built. If you can give me a code in that format I can look up the ratio in the books.

Aaah, no wonder. That's the casting number of the carrier housing. The number I need is stamped into the end of the passenger's side axle tube by the lower control arm bracket. It will be a depression in the tube and not a raised part of a casting. It is basically made by taking a stamp, kind of like you would find as a letter in a typewriter and striking it with a hammer. It looks like a block stamp you would find to identify an engine's original application in appearance. Like I said before, it may have rusted away or be covered by undercoating or rust. I found one once by scraping the tube with a screwdriver in the junkyard, and others by using some sandpaper of around 80-220 grit ( whatever I had laying around).

Ok I finally found the rear axle code. it's 8GBK096. I had to do a lot of scraping just to find it. No wonder I couldn't find it in the first place.

can a Quadrajet that originally came on a 79 350sbo be used on a 350sbc?
Yes, but the fuel line routing sucks. (Been there, done that, switched to a Chevy carb because I didn't like the way it looked)

Found it in my 1982 FSM for Oldsmobile RWD cars. It lists it for the Delta 88, which is a B body. It says it's a 2.73:1 axle, 7.5 housing, non posi, has cast iron drums, and 41 ring gear teeth and 15 pinion gear teeth. It was made by GM of Canada, 96th day of the year of manufacture.

If I wanted to swap the axle I have for the a 93 9C1 axle what would I need from the 9C1? Would I need the rear axle, new wheels because of the 5 x 5 bolt pattern, and the 9C1 driveshaft?
