Re: Build Thread, What I've done so far

Doober, there's two different styles of bottles... my Cutlass wagon uses the kind you mention.

Matt, My air cleaner is 14x3. Vapor lock is when your fuel gets too hot and turns to vapor before it reaches the carb.

Re: Build Thread, What I've done so far

Sweet, I'm gonna definitely look into geting a non-stamped then , they are like $20 cheaper too lol.

Re: Build Thread, What I've done so far

kinda sounds like either too much initial timing at start up, or maybe a lethargic starter... looks good and look forward to seeing the finished product with exhaust and stuff 😀

Re: Build Thread, What I've done so far

Thanks! Yeah I got it dialed in though, runs good when hot and starts good cold. Brand new starter so that shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Build Thread, What I've done so far

A little post christmas update here...

Got the plain summit air cleaner i wanted and the year one sticker. I had to make a little spacer (1 1/4") to raise the base up, it was hitting the electric choke. Got it installed and everyhing clears now. Looks awesome!

Got a nice creeper as well, nice craftsman toolbox, battery charger, and mechanics stethoscope. I have about half the money saved up for the exhaust now too!!

As soon as I got home from college I took the car for a little drive on some backroads. I was about a mile from my house and she quit on me as i started to accelerate. I'm guessing its the ignition coil because i used al old one from the junkyard as a temporary (had gas at the carb. too) haven't checked to see if i have spark yet, but i will pretty soon here. Either the coil or module. My buddy ended up towing me home... with his jetta 😳 it's a little 1.8T, he said all he heard was the turbo

Gonna slap some fresh semigloss on all the black parts under the hood, and touch up some spots on the block. I switched the battery to the drivers side today too.

Re: Build Thread, What I've done so far

Thanks!!

Got the gears off of the posi carrier now, in the hunt for some 7.5" 3.08 gears now. Hopefully they will give me a pretty hard launch and still good rpm range on the street. Not that I'm gonna be racing it a lot, just nice to feel the torque sometimes  Kinda wish i could throw a set of 3.23's in it, but oh well. Don't really want to mess around with a spacer or new thick gears.

Re: Build Thread, What I've done so far

this guy's car is freakin awesome!! im definetly goin for the olds 350 but i wanna keep my power steering. and could you take some pictures of the side of your engine so i could see how your headers fit? also i yould like to see that spacer so i can see how to fit my air cleaner. she looks good bro and you got somethin to be proud of!!!

Re: Build Thread, What I've done so far

Hey Matt, Looking good. Did you ever figure out what was wrong with it dying? Do you have spark?

I doubt that the coil is bad. If it is GM OEM, those things last forever. Could be a module. I have spares if you want to try one before you buy another one.

If you want, I have those Chrome valve covers I will sell you, cheap. I am going to be needing some taller ones to fit my Harland Sharp roller rockers under. The 403 build is on, got the heads and the block is at the machine shop.

Let me know if you need any more help.

Craig
