Re: Build Thread, What I've done so far

Goin to Summit on sunday to pick up the exhaust!! :friday:

Re: Build Thread, What I've done so far

Which exhaust kit are you buying?

Re: Build Thread, What I've done so far

It's the Summit brand 2.5" header back kit for the G-body. If I wasn't at home with dial up I'd give you the link  . It's not too hard to find though.

My dad and I did some welding on the new/used dual hump crossmember from an A-Body (I think) Just patched up some thin spots and took care of all the rust. Still have to shorten it up and figure out how I'm gonna mount it. That can wait till spring though. Also made my own EGR block-off, and have been cleaning up and painting parts to put on this spring.

What is the upper radiator support out of? Nice assortment of parts there 🙂.

Re: Build Thread, What I've done so far

Its an olds v8 piece. only the cutlasses with the 307s and diesels had them (I think) the fan shroud was just different fromn the others a little, and it just so happens that they are perfect for electric fans 8)

Re: Build Thread, What I've done so far

Yeah, when I got my current 83 Cutlass it had that same radiator support.

Re: Build Thread, What I've done so far

Had a hell of a trip to summit! It was a blast

First thing right when we got there, I picked up a set of #4 heads from a fellow forum member. Those will get cleaned up and put on next winter hopefully. Looked around for quite a while and eventually picked up my exhaust and a few odds and ends. One of my other buddies got a set of 16's for his '10 Tacoma, and we picked up some parts for another friend.

THEN... we found the clearence section  There were damaged steel 2" cowl hoods for mid 90's chevy trucks on sale for $150 each. Long story short a few phone-calls later, we're trying to see how many of these hoods we can fit in the honda minivan for another friend  We snagged 2 out of the 4 they had. We coulda strapped a third one to the roof if he woulda really wanted them, but he's gonna drive down to get the other 2 later... crazy chevy dude

I checked out the pipes when I got home, they look pretty good. They don't dump behind the tires like I thought they would, they go straight back. Nothin a welder won't fix though. Still undecided on whether I want chrome tips or not. We'll see... The kid who bought all the cowl hoods is gonna weld it up for me.

I gotta measure up for the crossmember so I know what size angle to get. we'll get the crossmember in, then its going to get the exhaust hung. I'm also gona pick up a set of those aluminum header flange gaskets, figured they will be worth it in the long run.
