The writeup for the Chevy in the stickies is great! However, has anyone done a 4L80E to a BOP pattern/torque converter/flexplate? I need to figure out how to do this to a 455.

Any resources out there?

Yeah, not much. Trying to figure this out for my 70S. I am planning on a bell housing adapter, use 3 bolts on the flexplate, supposedly works. Also the drive shaft is different on the O axle vs a Chevelle with a 12 bolt for length. I should have my Terminator X Max with 4L60E/4L80E harness next week. I just need to find a reasonable used 2WD 4L80E locally that they don't want $1500 for.

NonLS 4l80 has the same 11.5” converter bolt pattern as a t350, t400 etc. TransDapt adapter is .250” thick. The flex plate balance weight is .150” thick so if you have 6 bolt converter 3 bolts can be used and you’ll have plenty of clearance for the one converter mounting tab that aligns with the balance pad. I have the TD adapter. Nice piece. Came with center pilot extension. Longer block dowels would be needed too. I haven’t swapped a 4l80 yet but I did buy a supposedly workin one 4-5 yrs ago just incase. :)

I have on the back burner a 4L60E to BOP project, mainly because never did one before and if I screw it up, I will get over it. Plus the bell housing is cracked.

4L80E should be about the same. Cut off bell house and attach the ultra-bell.

Pic attached Is for the LS 5.3 just as an example. BOP unit is available, just haven't found it yet.

This one is the 700R/4L60 variant, for BOP.

Pricey but available.. I'm sure the same for the 4L80 is out there...

Yeah the Ultra bell is nice but the Trans Dapt adapter is about $400 less. I used a cheap Ebay adapter when I did the Olds powered 94 Z71, Olds 350 to a 4L60E. I should have went with a better adapter like the Trans Dapt one, less flimsy. It didn't come with the reduced head bolts either.

Yeah I'm not too hip on the prices asked for a piece of cast aluminum.

The ultra-bell style seems the most robust, I looked at trans adapt, haven't used one yet and they do look a little flimsy.

I was looking for 455 for the wagon, nothing around here even as a core. I did find a 403 or I'll just keep with the 350. I have a BOP 400 already for it. I can get 4l80 cores for decent price when available which have been fairly spotty lately.

The Transdapt is 5/16" thick, my adapter was thin tin. I wish there were cheap 2WD 4L80E here. I saw another 2WD 4L80E locally, asking $1100.

Cut the case and bolt up that adapter bell housing. I've seen it once in person when I worked in a machine shop. Empty case came in to be cut down for an adapter bell housing I believe it was going behind some Turbo Ford engine.

I had a stalled 4L80E in my SS for a bit years ago.
