7.5 to an 8.5 or any direct posi rear

You could put 8.5 28 spline axles and an aftermarket posi in your existing housing. They will take quite a bit of abuse.

I still have a previous project 87 Regal with a 455/TH400 with a 7.5 rearend. If you do not intend to use slicks they work fine.

If you can find a used posi and gears from a 93-02 Camaro or Firebird, then just buy replacement Turbo Regal/Grand National axles.
Ok that's good to know

I should have a kit that allows you to bolt with some minor welding a 98+ zr2 S10 rear, 8.5 3.73 posi disk brake rear in a g body with stock control arms springs ect. Just need to get some corvette/firebird wheels with 7" backspace.
So a 1998 S-10 rear would work ? No slicks its just a street cruiser with bracket readjustments?

One more:

https://gbodyforum.com/threads/considering-8-8-swap.62014/

Look, I have all the fab stuff and have gathered up most of the stuff for an 8.8 swap....to be done correctly, it costs as much or more than a 9 inch.

To fit, mine will require another set of axles...so do I go with 9 inch axles? (That are bolt in, to meet drag racing safetyrequirements) Then the rear I have is 4.10 and 28 spline...the axles are all about the same price new, why not go 31, 33, or 35 spline....then...well I would need a new or another posi unit...but a spool is cheaper...

I hope you see my point.

Zr2 yes, they are wider than a G body rear by 5 inches. Standard S10 will have a 7.5 so thats no help.

No

Just put a posi in your rearend. You can't find 7 inch backspace wheels. Mine are 15 x 10 with 5.5 inch backspace and are special made. That is with a stock width rearend (Moser 9 inch).

You can most likely source a used 7.5 or 7.625 28 spline posi and gears for $250 or less.

Avoid Gov-Loc style posi units. 3.42 is perfect for the 455/TH400 or 200R4 that is the gear that came in muscle car Era 455 Buicks and the same ratio used in Turbo Buicks with the 200R4.

Moser replacement axles are $260 - 270 finding used ones is on par with some Indiana Jones relics.

You get to keep your wheels, your suspension, and driveshaft.
