Wow lookin good. How did u get those parts so cleann!

The paint actually came off pretty easily since it's only a single coat. I initially wet sanded it with 150 grit, but soda blasted the paint after I saw how easy it was coming off. For the heavy rust I just used the wire wheel on the bench grinder. Then just degreased, primed & painted. Even without any special tools, sandpaper alone will work wonders on these if they aren't too rusty.

Lookin good!
The Pontiac blue is a pretty close match to the 'metric' blue used at the factory.
It's a nice touch to redo the fasteners like that... Most folks (like me) just paint 'em black.

When I had the SBC in my 442, I painted it Pontiac blue...

I normally wouldn't go through that much trouble either, but what the hell. It's not like the car is going to be on the road any time soon and I can take my time for once.

It`s always when you have extra time to do stuff in a nicely detailed fashion. Those little details make all the diferrence. It will be awsomme when finished.

it's sort of a "Pontiac innuendo" for the trained eye to notice.

alot of chassis fasteners were painted blue by gm. the Pontiac blue is a close match is what he was saying and it adds to the Pontiacness so to speak.

ditto! devil's in the details. They make that paint in 'GM Corporate Blue', or they used to anyway, which is the (I think) correct color. (Points docked at the next G Body concours meet. lol.)

All and only Metric chassis fasteners are painted blue to differentiate them from the SAE fasteners still in use on the same cars. These cars were GM's first experiment with the metric system now in use on everything, and you'll hear a lot of racers refer to them as "metric" cars/chassis.

It can be a headache switching back and forth between metric/sae tools when working on these cars...
