BUILD THREAD 81 Buick/Olds Turbo Wagon 02/15/2024 More Parts!

Jim, if you don't mind me asking, I noticed that you're using an aluminum rad support. Have you stripped it to the bare aluminum, is it clear coated, or have you refinished it to look like natural aluminum? I have one here that I'd like to use eventually, and I'd like to get it looking like yours. Thanks.

I had the radiator support blasted and powdercoated. I was afraid of clear coat yellowing out, or not adhering for long. I just matched a sample up from the powdercoater to match the aluminum stuff I have. It's close enough.

Not a problem.

So, I decided to yank the passenger side fender off to fix the profile so it matches the door. The idea is to drill out the spot welds from the fender skin and the brace, then reform it to match the curvature of the door.

I really should have checked it before the body work, but not biggie, it should be a relatively easy fix.

It's gonna look a million times better than new, Jim!
I'm glad I didn't dig as deep as you have to correct the factory flaws... I'd probably still be in primer if I did!
My "good enough for the factory, good enough for me" mentality saved me a TON of time! lol
Although it started off as me being lazy, it ended up turning into a surprisingly authentic restoration...

Hope you're able to continue with your progress, Jim.
We want to see more results. 🙂

Thanks guys, Blake, I always tend to go down the rabbit hole. But, I am not getting super crazy.

I did get out the and finished the passenger side fender, and blocked the whole passenger side. I had some work to do where all the panels met, but I am all good there now.

I need to get on the rear and the drivers side. Then jamb it in.

Took the passenger side fender and front door off, epoxy primed then 2k on the fender, and the same to just the back side and glass frame of the door. I have to do the outside of the door tomorrow night.
