Re: 81 Century/GN Wagon build-up New Pics! Update 11/25/13

I havent seen any one go into this depth for a "junk yard" brake conversion I like the research that is going into this great job!!
would you mind getting me a quick dimesioned drawing of that adapter bar? Looks like something I could easily make... I just cant justify spending $60+ on that simple of an adapter.
Also. if you want to go even bigger on your rotors and find a set that will work with your hubs and clipers (would just require an offset adapter bracket to be made... let me know, I run a waterjet from time to time here just draw it up and let me know how thick and what type of material and we can make it happen (beats drill press and cutoff wheels)

Thank you. I bunch of people have already done it to some extent using one set of parts or another ya know? I just wanted to use what is available to me. The C5 calipers and PAB's are like twice the money as the Camaros, that is the reason I am going this way. One I get the Camaro calipers and PAB's, I'l make an adapter rear quick and make a drawing from it. I may be able to convince one of the guys in my Art dept to put it into CAD. Then, post it up and maybe bribe you to make a few for me. 😀 Like you said, it beats a drill press and cut-off wheels. Or in my case, plasma cutter.

From initial digging, it looks like the bracket will be 1/2" thick. Like I said, I'll figure that out once I get the LS1 parts. If I get the 18" wheels I wanted to run, I could go with the 14" front rotors, but honestly, i think the 13.5 fronts, and the 12" rears will be plenty. Especially with hydroboost. 😀

no bribery nessessary, and get me a rough sketch and I can get it into autocad right here at my work station.

Re: 81 Century/GN Wagon build-up New Pics! Update 11/25/13

Awesome! I just have to get the calipers and abutments to get some measurements!.

Re: 81 Century/GN Wagon build-up New Pics! Update 11/25/13

Well, I went to the junkyard today and scored 3rd Gen Camaro Power Mirrors. I can use these mirrors instead of the Monte SS mirrors on a station wagon. I may have to take all 4 mirrors and make 2, whatever it takes to make them fit level.

I also scored an eight relay fuse box for under the hood from an LT1 Camaro. And finally, I got a whole wire harness to use for the spare wire for my EBL SFI-6 conversion. Store bought wire just doesn't have all the color combinations that the factory does.

Nice goin', Jim.
It's great when you can actually find things that you need. The Monte SS mirrors should look cool on your car...and power is even better. Have you tried doing a mock up/ test fit of your mirrors?
I notice guys installing the later '86+ mirrors cockeyed. As long as you have the right base gaskets. Actually, I think the Buick door skins have a larger surface area like the Monte Carlo.

Re: 81 Century/GN Wagon build-up New Pics! Update 11/25/13

Jack, there was a thread on mcss that showed a guy using that Camaro power mirrors. I also have Monte Carlo super sport mirrors, so I will make a base gasket for them to sit level.

Re: 81 Century/GN Wagon build-up New Pics! Update 11/25/13

Good deal! were you able to get the power switch and wiring?

Re: 81 Century/GN Wagon build-up New Pics! Update 11/25/13

No switch, just the mirrors and the wiring with pigtails. I'll have to find a switch that looks good with the interior.

Here is my eight relay panel. I'll be using it for headlights, ignition coils, fuel injectors, fans, ect. I Wanted something factory looking and have the ability to use a bunch of relays.

This will be perfect for me. I am not a fan of the aftermarket stuff.

:EDIT: An edit for me and those who like the idea. After some searching, I found these part numbers to use for the new terminals.

Mouser is where to order, they seem to be the cheapest. I don't have the crimpers for these I don't think, but they will be soldered anyway so I am not concerned.

Terminals & Delphi #'s for the 93-97 f-body fuse/ relay box are as follows:

Pak-con III (fuses)
10-12 AWG 12004568 (4-gang buss bar)
10-12 AWG 12020400 (single)
12020337 (reel)
14-16 AWG 12020321 (single)
12020338 (reel)
16-18 AWG 12020334

Metri pack 630 special (relays)
16-18 AWG 12015864
14-16 AWG 12015865
12 AWG 12052227
10-12 AWG 12034001

A good place to find part numbers, with pictures. http://www.whiteproducts.com/catalog/WhiteProductsCatalog.pdf
The guys have all the plugs, terminal, connectors, everything you would find on your can almost. The alternator plug, HEI power plug, headlight plug, etc. 😀

Yeah, I think you can't wrong using factory relay and fuse panels. It looks more like it was meant to be there.
