BUILD THREAD 81 Buick/Olds Turbo Wagon 02/15/2024 More Parts!

Re: 81 Century/GN Wagon Update 10/30/14 More metal work!

Well, jambs have all been sanded smooth and in epoxy, including the tailgate area. Major warping and dent in the roof area fixed. The AC box is all buttoned up, blower motor and the top screen have been installed. I am now waiting on the weekend after this one coming to get some friends/family over and get the body back on the chassis so I can begin rewiring this thing!

Progress will be slow over the winter, I will be helping my cousin with the metal work on his 69 Cuda. Minitubs, subframe connectors, torque boxes, quarter panels, floor pan and inner fender rust repair. He was instrumental in helping knock out a but ton of stripping, sanding, blasting, etc over the past few weekends. So, I will be giving him a few weekends back 😀

Re: 81 Century/GN Wagon Update 10/30/14 More metal work!

That's good news, Jim.
I'm glad extra help was available. There's just so much you can accomplish by yourself. It will be cool seeing the body sitting on the frame again. I'm sure you're anxious to get to that point.

Re: 81 Century/GN Wagon Update 10/30/14 More metal work!

I am Jack. The only downside is having to mask the frame all off as I continue the bodywork and fitting of all the panels. I wish I could have done all that before taking the body off, but circumstances had me do it the way I am now.

I'll have some pics here in a week or so of it when I do it! Can't wait! 😀 😀

Oh sh*t, we're neck and neck! I better start hustling!
I'm about ready to blow mine apart to prep all the door jambs...

I'm anxious to see pics of your progress, guys. It's no doubt extra work having to mask off the frame, etc., but you gotta do it, especially after everything is nicely painted.

Keep at it! I'll be getting the body on this weekend, then it will be a bit slow going for a few weeks. I have been messing around and hanging my 45k btu Mr. Heater LP heater. So I'll be wiring and all in the warmth this winter! 😀

Re: 81 Century/GN Wagon Update 10/30/14 More metal work!

Well, the body is on the frame. Been a long time comning, but I was able to get it on this weekend without too much trouble. I was a little concerned with the fit after boxing, nothing, rewelding the factory seams, and replacing the right rear frame rail. But, it went on without a hitch.

Now, I have a few pics, but I have to get them from my phone to the forum, without tapatalk this is a pain. 🙁

Re: 81 Century/GN Wagon Update 11/17/14 Body is on the frame

Ok, here are some pictures.

Here is chassis in the yard getting ready to get rolled into the garage.

The body high in the air. I left the rear on the rotisserie, and pumped the ram all the way up. I have the front on a 4x4 and some concrete blocks and jack stands.

The chassis under the body.

The body finally on the chassis, been a long time coming to get back to this.

Yesterday, I managed to get a few things done. Puttered around really, but got a few things done none the less. I had bought new preformed heater hoses and a heater control valve from Kirbans, so they were trimmed to fit and installed.

The the accelerator pedal was installed along with the hood release cable. I used 3M strip caulk on the fasteners and cables that came through the firewall to keep from water penetration (no pic).

I then installed the hydroboost unit with the master cylinder so I can fab a bracket for the proportioning valve. I also bent up and flared the stainless lines to get everything hooked up. The hydroboost unit has a new firewall gasket I got from either g-body or Kirbans (can't remember).

I also put an upgraded ball bearing in the lower steering column, getting rid of the worn out plastic bushing. Really tightened up the 30 year old column.
