Ok, I know I haven't had any updates in a while, but with the weather, work and family it has been kinda busy around here. In any case, some new material for those watching.
As you all know, I scored a new to me Precision Turbo & Engine (PTE) Stock Location InterCooler (SLIC). I came with the aluminum shroud, powder coated grey (blah), a braced drivers side SLIC bracket, and the PTE aluminum passenger side SLIC bracket. I was missing the spacers needed for the install, but no biggie.
The thing that sucks is I already purchased red silicon couplers and T-bar clamps for the Dutt neck modified stock SLIC and stock sized up-pipe. So, I went to the same guy I bought those from, Earl Brown (THANKS!), and he set me up with the larger couplers, clamps, a 3" aluminum up-pipe and a 3.5" intake pipe.
Here is a before picture.
Here is a comparison of the two, for those not familiar with turbo Buicks. PTE on the left, stock on the right.
I am glad I didn't purchase the PTE new, because it didn't fit worth a sh*t! The brackets were nowhere near close, the inlet of the SLIC was to close to the outlet of the turbo, and few other nitpicks. I had to cut 1/2" off the inlet of the SLIC so the silicon coupler would fir right, and the SLIC would be perpendicular to the crank fan. After that, the passenger side bracket had to be cut, and the SLIC side mounting tab had to be moved in 1/2", and down 1/2". FWIW, this engine has all stock front accessories and turbo, though the sway bar is huge.
Here's a quick pic before I cleaned it up and painted it.
I made a spacer that was missing by tacking a piece of 1/2" black pipe and welding nuts on each end. This way I can thread it on the factory stud on one side, and use a bolt on the other to hold the passenger side aluminum bracket in place. The other hole in the bracket uses the stock water pump bolt. The instructions list a spacer to go there, but If I used it, the SLIC would contact the sway bar and not ever line up with the up-pipe.
After taking my time and messing with it repeatedly, in and out, in and out, I got it to fit like I wanted.
Here is a picture of it installed. I have to finish the intake pipe yet.
I'll be fabbing a box to hold the Spectra Cone filter, and making it meet the Ram Air box on the hood. The filter and box will sit right about here.
And just for the tech geeks, I got my Dell Windows 10 tablet working with the EBL SFI-6.
I have to order up some aluminum sheet to fab the air filter box, my Blow Off Valve (BOV) will be here Wednesday. And my aluminum weld bung sometime this week too. Sooooooo, after that stuff comes in, I'll weld it all to the up-pipe, then polish it out and re-install it with all the clamps nice and tidy.
