Glad to see a Poncho power plant going in it!

Good Pontiac motors are hard to find, so it took weeks of searching to find this one, plus a roadtrip
to pick it up. but its a 70 complete motor, with about 80K miles on it. We re gonna start tearing it down
next week.

Stopped by a local U pull it yesterday and had a good find, Solid back glass for the wagon $35 In very good shape.
also a few caravan rear weather strips in good shape, just need to be cleaned up 2-$10.
Disconnected the 400 from the trans and Degreased / Pressure washed Motor and both trans's.
Hoping to get the 400 on the stand tomorrow to start tearing it down to be sent out.
A few pics...more to come
Also picked up front grills and the roof rack from the body shop, to be sent out for rechroming,

Two Questions;
Have a second grill set, been toying with the idea of painting them the same color as the body (like a monte SS) any
thoughts?
I was suprized when I saw the wagon w/o the roof rack, Thought it looks really good (didnt plan on going this way) but
mite leave the roof rack off and back weld the holes, Any thoughts on this?

Good score! The rear hatch glass along with any G-body wagon stuff is getting harder to find. The Caravan rubber seals are a good deal. I'm going to have to get an extra one to keep on hand. I also keep a rear hatch glass as a spare.
Did you take the hinges as well? Ooops! I see you did...good man.

As far as eliminating the roof rack. That's what I ended up doing about 15 yrs ago. I thought the rack was kinda cheesy.
I welded up the holes and threw the rack out. I can't tell you how many times I saw posts for guys looking for the original roof racks. It's a matter of preference. If I still had the rack on the car, I'd probably mount a surfboard on it.

Are you going to chrome the rack? If I'm not mistaken, the rack is made of aluminum, and the roof rails are stainless steel.
I think the 400 Pontiac should be a nice engine for the car. Substantial torque and get up and go.
Keep us updated on your progress.

You're telling me! I had to drive a good 5+ hours one way for my 455.

Yea the caravan rubber is still available from Chrysler, its about $89 so when I saw 2 in good shape I picked up both and for $10 it was a good buy.
The car looks so different w/o the rack I told the body shop to back-weld the holes yesterday, the only part of the roof
rack that needs chroming is cast metal just above the rubber mounts, the rest is aluminum.
Engine is on the stand beggin to be torn apart.

Your wagon looks way cool so far. Glad to you putting in a poncho motor in it. I`d deffinatly go without the roof rack if it were mine. If you paint your grilles body color, be sure to post pics, I was wondering about doing that to mine because the chrome is peeling but I have only one set.

Thank you, I'll be taking the grills to the paint shop sometime this week, My buddy wants them by Tues. to start on them.
I'll post pics of grills in primer and prep info. when he has them done. Most of the body work is done on the car except
back filling roof rack holes. Hopefully will be primed this week or next.
Probably wont start motor tear down till the end of the week.

Just got a picture from the body shop. 3 coats of primer, 26 roof rack holes back welded, working on the grills now
more pictures coming.
