82 Malibu Wagon in New Zealand

Sheesh time fly's, was hoping to have this at least running by Xmas but that didn't happen. Joys of being self employed, next year though stuffs going to happen. Paint jobs paid for so she has to be sorted for that & needs to be running so in between jobs i'll be doing what i can, id say i've got most if not all of what i need here to finish her besides the exhaust which i'll tackle myself. It's 2.5 to 3k for a system over here & i sure aren't paying that🤔
Needs to be “ environmentally conscious and clean!”

Well after a year the chev trans is back together, joys of always working. Lost parts & all but got it sorted, so I’d say once I get back from holiday next month it’ll be motor back out then put her back together. Been way to long, has to be sorted as the paint jobs paid for & she needs to be able to move under her own power. Be a juggling match with work but i want to drive this old girl at last....
😎

Right engine back out, trans to be bolted up then i'll start getting this back together. She's next in line for the paint shop so has to be running, got 3 doors to take off this week for rust repairs as well. Taken me a long time to get to this point but i'm about to make some head way on the poor old girl, cost of living crisis over here in Nz so things are pretty dead which gives me a good time to get this done.....

Chased down some gearbox mount bolts, bolted the trans up and dropped them both in. Have to swap out the gearbox crossmember but that’s easy to sort, least the engines bolted in. Chip away at it and will have it running in no time, only thing that scares me is that gas tank. If it’s got fuel in it it will be tank recon time coz it will be a mess
🤔

If you have a lot of varnish in the tank there's two ways of dealing with it. One is steam clean it( not great way with the waste water to deal with) or lacquer thinner. the thinner will break down the varnish and you can put it through a rag or paint strainer and re-use it until the tank is clean. also can use it through the fuel lines to clean them. had a couple jobs like that back in the day one being an aluminum airplane fuel tank with heavy varnish build up and was able to recycle it a number of times until it was clear, and put it right back into the can for disposial. Plus the thinner will evaporate out of the tank.
You can also spray carb cleaner down the fuel lines too for cleaning them. I know your goverment is pretty careful with stuff about recycling.

Gearbox crossmember was way different than the v6 one so swapped that out for the proper one & got the trans all bolted up. trying to spend an hour or two a day on her so she should start coming together pretty quickly i'd say 😉 👍

All the carb linkages sorted on the chev, bugger all really needs done to fire her up. Bolt the torque converter to the flex plate, plug wiring in and then just fuel lines and plug leads. Probably try sort that between jobs over the next couple of weeks
👌
😎
