'83 Cutlass Cruiser Build Thread

Been debating adding the vinyl woodgrain trim around the car once it's painted. Should I do it?

Took care of a few more spots yesterday and rolled it to the door so I could blow all the dust off of it.
Felt around some more and found a couple more spots to tend to...
I'll take care of those tomorrow and mask it off.
Back To The '50s is this weekend so I won't get anything done... hopefully Tuesday I can get some primer on it.

Well last Thursday we had a monstrous rain spell, and the heaviest of it fell while I was driving out to work on the car.
By the time I got to the shop I was exhausted just from trying to stay on the road.
Needless to say I didn't get any bodywork done, but I distracted myself by robbing all the hardware off the old 4-lite header panel before throwing it out... So at least I did something!

Tuesday I finished off the spots I had left and gave it my "close enough" stamp of approval.
Thursday I got the car masked off and yesterday I hit it with 4 coats of Slick Sand.

It looks better than I thought it would, so I'm happy
I'll let it sit for a week or so before I start sanding on it.
I'll start stripping the 1/4 panels and doing the filler work on those Tuesday while waiting for the primer to cure.

The roof looks really good, Blake.
I like working with Slick Sand....it's good stuff. You just need a spray gun with a 2.2 tip. I managed to get by with a 2.0 tip.
Unfortunately, I didn't do the whole car with it, just the doors and tailgate. It would have definitely helped on the roof.

Man, I heard about all the rain and flooding up in the Twin Cities. Hope it hasn't affected you guys too adversely.

Thanks Jack!
I ended up having to thin it a little bit because all I had access to was a gun with a 1.8 tip...
That's why it got closer to five coats than the recommended three.
I'm just glad to have it covered up!

I have to admit... I also had to thin it a bit. It seemed to work better.. even with the 2.0 tip. Like you said, just had to apply a few more coats. It sands nicely.

Blake, that slicksand is great stuff. I use a Devilbiss Finishline with a 2.2mm tip for it. But thinning it works too to get it down. Your making some great progress. 😀

Took it kinda slow last week, but managed to get both 1/4 panels stripped.
Tuesday I threw some filler on the couple dents and today I sanded it off... Good to go.
It's nice when you only have to fix one dent and a half dozen small dings versus 150+ hail dents!

I'm gonna mess around with the 442 this weekend and I'll start blocking out the roof Tuesday.

Nice! I am finally going to get to the floors on mine this weekend, glad to see you are making progress. It is you and Scott who are helping to keep me going. 😀

Taking the 442 down to car craft?

Im taking the cutlass finally. Be there saturday and sunday I think.

Been chugging along, slowly but surely...

Got the filler work on the 1/4's done and the roof is mostly blocked out.
There's a few imperfections left, but they're all so slight that I think the next coats of primer will hide them.

I might head out tomorrow and try and finish the roof up (just need to sand the ribs), otherwise I'll take care of it Tuesday and get it ready to re-prime.
