'83 Cutlass Cruiser Build Thread

Been debating adding the vinyl woodgrain trim around the car once it's painted. Should I do it?

Looks awesome!
I pulled mine out of storage Saturday night and have been driving it a bit (on expired plates lol).
The "Ohio Navy" has invaded us for the holiday and she has turned some heads and gotten a couple thumbs up from the tourists.
I guess I'll clean her up and pull out the headliner AGAIN. I have a 1964 factory 4x4, v8, 4speed suburban exploded all over my shop now. I don't have much room to play with the wagon.

right as I finally decide to cut my losses and sell the Grand Prix, get a daily driver to keep the miles down on the truck, and throw a little $ at the Regal, a few of you are making me want a wagon.....

seriously, I'm glad you're taking the time near the end to get things right, instead of rushing through them... that thing has turned out beautiful!

So you NEED a wagon?!? HMMM

Pulled the car out of the garage today for the first time of the year! Mostly just so I could turn it around...
I've been slowly replacing the trim around the woodgrain, and have gotten the tailgate and 95% of the passenger side done.
Now that the car is turned around, I'll take care of the drivers side...
The new trim looks a million times better than the shitty tape I used before... even if I'm not the greatest at cutting the corners to fit!

Blake,
I have a quick question for you. My buddy with the Cutlass Cruiser is looking to remove the chrome strips along the top of the doors, etc. Would he also be able to use the same window sweeps as a Malibu, or any other G-body wagon?...and also, what is underneath the trim...studs and clips?

I noticed your car originally had all the chrome mouldings that I mentioned. What did you actually do about them?

Thanks guys! I'm pumped to get it on the road!!!

Jack, the wide window belt-line moldings are super easy to get rid of.
They attach like any other window sweep, so once the glass is lowered and vent windows removed, you can just remove the screws and out they come.
There is one screw at the very front of the front door pieces that wraps around into the jamb, it's easy to see with the door open.
I used regular sweeps, but had to re-drill all the holes for them to fit properly.
The wide moldings below the 1/4 glass are the pain-in-the-*ss clip on kind with studs that would have to be removed... Hope that helps!

Last nite I spent some more time on the trim and got the passenger side about 2/3's done.
I'll have to pick up another roll (already used 3) so I can finish what's left...
