You will like the Hughes trans pan. Get a bottom feed 700r4 filter and grind down the stands in the pan.

What is the benefit in using the 700r4 filter? I have one sitting in my Camaro hatch just waiting for some use.

So not much done today, started cleaning up my fans, disassembled them from the housing so they can be painted(low gloss black). Cleaned some of the smaller parts water neck etc... Spent a few bucks autozone yay 🙁. I've been thinking about the best way to run my oil/trans cooler lines and I think using 5/16" steel tubing will work for the trans. 3/8" Rubber hose or 3/8" steel line for the oil cooler. I'm not gonna install the fans til the spring I wanna see how well the coolers work without them first. I have to have some nuts welded into my new trans pan and old oil pan to run the sending units. I'm gonna be pushing this completion deadline in a big way.

The 2004r filter sucks from the top. It can have aeration issues on hard launch. The 700r4 filter will need an extension, mine did.

Oh ok makes sense, thanks for the tip olds

Thank GOD for tax season, so this is gonna allow me to slow up a bit and with that said, I'm thinking of doing a disc brake upgrade on my rear, maybe the front too. Gonna look for a spoiler maybe hood scoop idk yet. Moog stock height springs and bilsteins and rear sway bar are happening for sure. Still hunting for early heads(anybody out there lol) So in the mean time I will drive my camaro on nicer days since I got the heat working today(just had to remember that I am an electrician).
Oh and I've been thinking of these flat top pistons as they should be able to help the cr issues with the #8 heads.

Great news I'm gonna be picking up a set of #5 heads saturday and sending them to the machine shop that following monday for a perf valve job. Waiting on a few parts from summit so I can reinstall my rearend, hell while I'm at it im gonna clean up the under carraige a bit and shoot some undercoating on it.

Good to see progress, will give it a nice compression bump. I am swapping my Olds powered 4x4's 4L60E this week, then on to the Cutlass's TH250C.

So I dropped off my #5 heads and Comp springs/etc. to the machine shop today, looking at valve job, seats and some better seals hopefully it will stay under 500$ wish me luck

Awesome car, awesome build, man. You have done the right thing with your "resto-mod" version of fixing this car. I think you could say that the people at Oldsmobile who designed and marketed your car would have put that engine in there if they had been allowed to do so. The soul of your car is strengthened by the mods you are doing. The LSx swap would have done a great disservice to the car and its heritage. Save those for the Monte Carlos and El Caminos that suffered under the power of the Mexican small blocks hahahahhaha.

The pistons, heads and cam that you have selected should really feel strong when you hit the street.

Good job!

Great project man! My 350 started out like yours with the low comp heads, then on went 5A's, and then I finally found a set of #5's. I had the heads shaved .038, w-31 valves installed, bowl work done, springs, and all the other normal rebuild things done. Needless to say $1700 spent with Bill Trovato, and the heads really changed how it ran.

My 442 project isn't far from what you're doing to your H/O check it out sometime.
