On the 83 H/O ,, the vac ball is passenger side, all the way fwd, behind the headlights,in front of charcol canister.. Vac for the cruise control comes off a port right off the intake manifold.
84 ,,has a completely different cruise setup than the 83

Latest update:

I acquired a 442 steering wheel, maroon, on CL and got it installed. Looks great!

I received my rockauto order, so I installed the new heater control valve. I also had a waterneck leak due to a semi stripped bolt so I corrected that as well.

I found a location for the vacuum reservoir right in front of the AC box. Ive taken the vacuum source off the nipple on the backside of the baseplate of the carb.

The vacuum reservoir on the drivers side is indeed for the cruist setup. That system will be addressed at a later date.

It is firing up, heating up without leaks, and I have heat in the cabin.

My temp gage is not reading in the dash - I need to troubleshoot.

Also I am at a fixed 30 dwell for the time being.

There is a lot of tuneup to be done, but it is much closer to original now than it was when I found it.

GAH!

I went to warm up the h/o today to work on the tuneup.

Fired it up, running on fast idle, I went inside to get a torx bit to adjust the idle rpms.

came outside to see a HUGE plume of white smoke from the engine bay.

ran over, shut her down. Ends up a passenger side freezeplug had been replaced with one of those expandable rubber ones ages ago. I guess when it sat for years in a shed, it degraded/hardened and cracked.

So it decided to blow clear out of the block in my driveway. what a mess.

On further inspection, the previous owner had put a 1 3/8" rubber expansion plug in a 1.5" hole. This let to too much preload on the rubber, and an inability to sufficiently tighten the plug.

I sourced the proper 1.5" rubber expansion olug and it installed and is functioning perfectly. If I eventually pull the engine or trans for any reason, I will replace the temporary rubber plug with a good permanent brass one.

On another note: after the fix I filled up with 50/50 coolant and warmed the car up good. I tinkered with the fast idle and curb idle rpms, and attached a dwell meter. I am not stuck at a 30 degree dwell!

With the engine sufficiently warmed up and everything properly hooked up, the CCC is functioning as intended.

The dwell is reading a little rich, varying from 35 to 40 degrees. But I can tinker with that on a warmer day!

Today I braved the cold front to finish the engine bay hookups.

Fired the engine up and all is well!.....excepting the heater control valve leaking all over the place.

So I am back on the CCC with the original 17084554 qjet and A4 intake, which makes me happy.

A couple things of the emissions variety are missing - I need the bracket that holds the EGR solenoid on the intake. Or maybe Ill fabricate one. Then Ill mount it and do the vacuum plumbing.

I am missing the heater vacuum reservoir. Does anyone have a pic of where that mounts?
Also missing - the canister purge valve.

SO I made a Rockauto order for the heatervalve, vac reservoir, and purge valve. Should be able to wrap it up soon.

On another note - I will be contacting Discount Tire Direct for a set of 4 new tires come spring - any suggestions on size? I was thinking 235 or 245 60 15s

Still need a decent driver quality steering wheel

I have a steering wheel available. 863-557-6250

Alright I am back at it with my 84 Hurst Olds!

t I am going to DMV tomorrow to get plates.

I did end up getting two 235-60-15 and two 245-60-15 from Discount Tire direct. Tires are good.

I have evaluated the Ttop rot. Looks like I will only need the forward replacement section at the top of the windshield. I need to pull the windshield out then get at it!

Looking forward to making some serious progress this spring/summer! I will update this thread as I work.

Eager to get it on the road. Ttops rule!

great to see you back at this car.........looking forward to your updates.
