Slipper valve is done

And got the pinion set with .030" shim, it might need .027", depends what the pattern looks like. And got the ring in and set at .007" backlash. It's either good or bad, depends on what cut style of gears these are, and the box didn't come with literature so I gotta do some research.

Otherwise I just gotta pull the pinion out and swap to the press on bearing and bolt the case in, seal the cover and fill with oil.

Man, I need one of those. 😉

I'll see if I can scrounge up some more valves 🙂

Checked pattern and it looked good as is. Needed 6-12 thou backlash, had 8 using the same shim as the 3.73's had just switched side to side so it went together really easy.

Pulled the pinion out for the last time, pressed on the final bearing, set preload, installed a new input seal, got a hernia installing the diff (damn tru tracks are heavy) and buttoned the axles, cover, oil fill and brakes up.

Good enough for the girls I go out with!

And back on the ground. Got it done a bit late to test drive but it gives the diff cover silicone some time to dry.

I need to change the gears in HPtwizzlers and give it a test drive.

Then order t56 synchro rebuild parts.

Cool, much appreciated. Don't kill yourself - it's a nice to have. Like the Buick flywheel sitting on my shelf waiting for a new home. 😉

Took the car for a cruise and the gears make no audible noise so that's a win.

Car drives noticeablely better with the 4.30's. Smoother from a stop with less feathering the clutch and it still goes 70 at reasonable rpm so I didn't lose any high speed drivability.

But the trans does clunk going into gear now that I'm hyper aware and it does need synchros. That's the next thing but chair-craft is this weekend and the autocross so I gotta shine the car up and give it a quick alignment.

Chair-craft or the show formerly known as the car craft summer nationals, now the street machine nationals was this weekend and I was wishy washy on if I wanted to go and pay the $50 entry fee or spectate at the 1/8 mile track no time race, but I picked the show. Rain shut the down the 1/8 mile event anyway so I made the right choice.

Turned corners at the autocross (the one time I go a year). Got 53 seconds as my best, I need to learn how to drive and tune my shocks more. The really good people were in the 42's. Regardless I had fun.

I've got a video to process also

Oh and the road leaving the venue people usually cruise after the venue and do a short parking lot show, and a few people do a burnout or two. Good way to spend an evening and see stuff drive by or cruise yourself. Back to the 50's which was a month ago had typical hoonery and the local popo decided that was not acceptable this year for this show and blocked the highway off from 3 to 1 lane.

Lame.... Lots of honks were given.

If you're 11 seconds off of the fast guys shocks aren't going to save you. I think there may be some brakes, tires, alignment, and suspension you are severely lacking in. I suspect you don't know what you're missing, but if you felt it in someone else's car it'd click. That said, autox'ing one of these is an uphill battle. That said, you could still find half of that gap fairly simply I suspect.

I need a driver mod.

I'm clueless and don't know what I need, you are right. Shocks are the one thing I am willing to change on the car (besides tire pressure or something) besides me just learning.

Yeah you're out there driving Miss Daisy not rolling enough speed at all. Even if the car is a pile of hot garbage there are multiple seconds left in it. C'mon down to CO, I can hustle that pig less slowly. Don't spend a dime to make it faster in autox, just try to find someone local who can help you see the light.
