BUILD THREAD 86 GP 2+2~Blown 6.0

Is that not included in this kit?

See that bottom left ring? Looks like bronze to me (which is what they got stock).

Don't need to change any gears or bearings besides the output shaft bushing?
I had a CTSV T56 so I didn't need gears, just some parts for the reverse and shifter parts due to the output difference. I honestly don't remember exactly but I remember something with the input shaft, it should be in that PDF as that's where I got my info from.

SSR shaft upgrade is doa. I couldn't find any stock and asked the local guy who said they are discontinued and not available. He said it's good for 700+ which im not at so I'm leaving it 27 spline.

Pressed the 3/4 syncro drum off with the lathe

And 1/2 drum with my arbor press

All the gear syncro teeth look decent and the syncro slider rings are also decent ish. Local guy recommended changing the gear with the rings if I decide to do it which is another $500 probably and getting out of scope so I'm just deburring what I see and putting it back as is.

1/2 syncro keys were in less than stellar shape

Ditto on 3/4

I got the solid heat treated keys in 1/2 and 3/4 and cleaned up the gears.

I still need to order a new-
Main shaft due to excessive 5/6 spline wear and TX drivetrain reman service is currently not offered due to the machinist being sick
5/6 gear because it also has spline wear
Snap ring set
Main shaft front cone & shim kit
And a reverse gear because the syncro teeth are wasted

Sooo another $750.

This is one expensive 'send the kid back to school' investment lol....

At least it's starting to go back together and I've got a plan.

How long until TDP makes a run of SSR shafts? They make them in house. Also, you have your 1-2 and 3-4 mixed up in both references. 1-2 has the longer keys and larger diameter gears on the mainshaft.

Probably a long time being their reman service machinist is in the hospital. I doubt (assuming) they have more than 1 guy, he said he is searching for a replacement and hope he gets better.

I've got 2 weeks to get this thing back in time for drag weekend so the moderate peace of mind and risk of waiting for parts isn't a luxury I have.

Your right, I keep thinking 1 starts at the front but 3/4 does.

Local T56 guy said the SSR upgrade also needs some other stuff changed, clips, 2nd gear retainer, etc.

2hrs a day keeps progress going!

Burned 2 cans of brake klean to clean up the front cover and rear housing.

Changed front and rear seals and slip yoke bushing.

Still need to clean up the main housing and replace syncros in reverse and 5/6.

Rest of the parts arrive Friday. Hope to have it in the car next Wednesday.

5/6 syncros were tore up?

There looks to be decent friction material left and none of the keys were broke like 1/2 or 3/4.

Teeth look much better than 1-4

But I've got new parts so the friction and keys are getting replaced on 5/6.

1/2 had like zero friction material left.

Sounds like you're winning thus far. Hope all of the parts show up as scheduled. Also sounds like you found an issue to match with all of the complaints.

Regarding the SSR upgrade document you linked, I'm amazed how the TH400 parts from 50+ years ago are referenced and being used in something that is 30-40 years newer as 'an upgrade' haha.

Off topic (a little), you mentioned you blew through two cans of brake clean - can you get the good stuff yet? The brake clean that is considered 'legal' in NY has turned into the equivalent of using water / dish soap mix minus the bubbles. I have 9 cans of 'the good stuff' left with no means to get anymore of it, so I use it sparingly .......... wtf & smh.
