BUILD THREAD 86 GP 2+2~Blown 6.0

Sounds like you're winning thus far. Hope all of the parts show up as scheduled. Also sounds like you found an issue to match with all of the complaints.

Regarding the SSR upgrade document you linked, I'm amazed how the TH400 parts from 50+ years ago are referenced and being used in something that is 30-40 years newer as 'an upgrade' haha.

Off topic (a little), you mentioned you blew through two cans of brake clean - can you get the good stuff yet? The brake clean that is considered 'legal' in NY has turned into the equivalent of using water / dish soap mix minus the bubbles. I have 9 cans of 'the good stuff' left with no means to get anymore of it, so I use it sparingly .......... wtf & smh.

Absolutely, funny how the t400 output shaft size got carried through to the T56 SSR and then ended up in the aftermarket as an update. Reportedly it's more of a 700+ hp upgrade but still woulda been nice to do since I had to source a new main shaft.

We can still get the good 'old' stuff in ND, MN, IA and WI. Some supply issues sure, but none of the 'low VOC' kind. I used to use CRC red can but they have been out of stock at the fleet supply store and it's more expensive at the auto parts store so I've been getting the berryman stuff. Cheaper and same stuff.

I did make the mistake of buying low VOC paint prep/cleaner a few years ago because it was the only kind the store had on the shelf in a smaller container, I didn't want a gallon only a quart, didn't realize what 'low VOC compliant' meant and hated it. Like you mention it was just soapy water.

I feel a side hustle coming on.

Running bootleg Brake clean down south.

I work with a guy that makes runs to Virginia to get deck and fence stain for that reason. The environmentally friendly stain we have available now is a guarantee of having to re-stain your deck every two years

We have commercially available chemicals that cannot leave the province because of regulations. My shed is now full of them. It's no wonder the Feds are trespassing to test our water...

Heads up Mike, they’ve seen you - don’t think it’s what’s in your shed why they are hanging out front of your house

😉

Used another can and a half of contriban to clean the main housing. Swapped the 3/4 fork to the steel one, replaced all the shift fork pads to bronze & changed the reverse and 5/6 blocker rings and keys.

One of each of the plastic fork pads on 5/6 and Rev were cracked and missing pieces so this trans for sure needed a going-thru

5/6 new gear showed up today surprisingly. Main shaft and rev gear Friday I hope. Then it goes back together!

So heres one for you, very basic but my buddy questioned me about putting Dex 3 in it where there is clearly the sticker saying to do so. Do you plan to run something else cause he says he would still run Synchromesh because he says it doesn't need Dex 3 properties being a manual

Syncromesh I believe was for the paper lined syncros and not these carbon dealies. All my T56s have stickers telling you to run dex.

I'm planning to run normal farm implement store red trans fluid dex3 clone.
