BUILD THREAD 86 GP 2+2~Blown 6.0

Went to the show formerly known as the carcraft summer nats in St Paul Saturday. Was going to put the 3rd gen big front swaybar in and try to autocross the car again but 1. the bushings I ordered from rock auto showed up incorrect and 2. The swaybar took 1 1/2 weeks for the yard that pulled it to move it from their yard to the sister yard 60 miles away for me to pick it up. Blah.

Anyways just cruised the car up.

Got again, 20.4 mpg haha.

Rear bearing took a dump on the alternator at the show. Luckily found one Sunday AM at napa (that was close but not perfect) and had to take it apart and reclock it. It's fixed thankfully after some stressing out Saturday not finding one.

I didn't take any pictures but this one. Fiero with a turbo ecotec.

My z28 3rd gen swaybar showed up finally. $10 bushings from rock auto, $58 swaybar from the salvage yard, some paint and carb cleaner, and looks good!

Initial impressions are it is better. Bar is 5/8 narrower or for anyone interested.

Weighs about 1/2 as much!

It seemed to help my car but I've been ginger with it since it was a frame off. Only have about 100 miles on it and wanted to make sure I actually tightened everything before I threw it into a corner LOL

Swapped over to the drag radials last night and took the car to the track.

Good news- Posi is good, and the suspension work helped. Intercooler helped for sure and the IAT's stay flat at 130-140 even after 5 runs.

Bad news- I don't know how to launch a manual car haha.

Ran a 13.16 at 109 first run, did some tuning added 3 degrees of timing. Ran a 12.93 at 113. 3-4mph on 3-4 degrees is promising. Started at 9 degrees and got to 12 or 13 I think. Still only on a random blend of 87 and mostly 93 in the tank. Injector duty cycle is about 55% with 80lbers so i have plenty of room for e85.

From the 3rd, 4th and 5th pass on kept right at 113mph. Biggest thing i was working on was my launch RPM and not getting it to bog. Getting a good 60ft was my biggest issue. Focused on launching at 3000, and bumping up a few hundred RPM every launch. It helped a bit and got from 2.1 60ft to 1.9. but it should be the in the 1.7 or better.

My problem is even with the drag radials, reving to 3000 and launching on an unprepped surface it spins so it doesn't bog. Get to a track and it dead hooks so it's tough to really know where to launch RPM wise. I can dump the clutch on the street and it just goes but I have to get used to where to launch RPM and how slow to let out of the clutch at the track. Watching my RPM, the light, and finding how to let the clutch out is too much to think of really.

Ended up with a best of 12.52 at 113. If I can learn how to launch without bogging to 1000-2200 RPM on launch (need a 2 step) to get my 60ft down, it should be right at low 12's. Swap over to corn, and another 4 degrees of timing should get another 3-4 mph by the trend of my first timing addition. I did try to add another 2 degrees in before my 6th pass but they shut down before I got to run, so there very well might be room for more timing in the car on just 93. Bit here and bit there should get it right to 11.50. I'm not putting a roll bar in the car so past that anything is just a bonus.

Awesome build!

I would reverse your launch strategy- start with lower rpm, and work up until you find the tire break point. Then, you can work on the suspension, and put more rpm to it.
I've been going through the same crap with the red car for years; I had it pretty well down, and then threw more power at it. Back to square one!

So I blew the bulb in the wagon for the roof dome light changing the headliner. Never liked the normal filament bulbs in the headliner since they get so hot.

Found an LED replacement on amazon for $7 shipped for 4. Put one in the wagon and the 2+2 since only in the past 2 weeks did I replace the foot pedal bulbs.

Totally worth it, brighter than the stock bulb and they dropped in, less than what a filament would have cost.
