I will have to find the box that has the books in it. I know I have it somewhere unless someone stole it from me. I don't usually toss stuff like that. I believe they are "bare" in that they didn't have the James Oldsmobile inkstamp on them like most dealerships because it had never been opened. I don't know that for sure, but I'll have to look and see when I find it.

Production numbers for 85 442 was easy. 3,000. There were 14,512 more VIN A/Y Salons

The 55,275 figure were for Cutlass Supreme Broughams in 1986. Supremes came in at 79,654.

In 1986, there were 5,335 Salons produced. Also considered a Salon, the 442 that year took up another 4,273 Salon spot.

There were 9,221 1987 Salons produced. Supremes topped out at 46,505 with 4,208 more Supreme-based 442s.

* You're most adept here. Yes, many had the inkstamps. As they say, "You the man". Thanks very much for the link, didn't realize that information was anywhere.

If its what u want and it is in as good a shape as u say it is its worth whatever someone is willing to pay. I know i paid all the money for my SS and i could care less. It was exactly what i was looking for. Im glad i did it.

Do these numbers reflect Canada built cars as well as US built? I have a 1987 Salon bought new, and the VIN is 2G3GK11Y8H...(note 2, not 1 first digit), though the model is still GR47 with Y78 RPO.

Thanks for that link, pretty cool.

Although the chart shows a 1 for the first number, I think it was just there for the typical VIN annotation as to the model within the VIN. Your car, as all Y78s, was technically a Supreme to begin with. The Y78 RPO is the Salon RPO (Calais in '84 and previous), and part of what that RPO did was to change the VIN designator to GR47. I sincerely believe the chart is supposed to be the entirety of the number of total cars of a particular model regardless of where produced. I've never seen a "separate" chart.

They could have changed things recently, but Canadian cars can be checked out by contacting GM Canada and they should be able to provide you with information for your particular car, like how many were made in/for Canada, whether imported (Z49 RPO) or built in a Canadian assembly plant.

That is a nice car but the vinyl top could have hidden rust. It is less likely depending on the climate it was exposed to. See if he will sell for a reasonable price, $9500 isn't it.

It's been inside storage most of the time when not used !! I know it doesn't help the fact it has a v/top but it has been undercoated as well when purchased !

Nice ride, steep price. It's not an H/O or 442, so why is it more than 5-6k?
Because of the proliferation of car shows. People think anything over 25-30 years old is worth a lot more than it actually is. And when I say "worth", I am referring to how much they can *realistically* get for it. If the interior and drivetrain/underhood is as nice as the exterior looks, I would throw $5900 at it. I wonder what happened to the original wheels? Maybe he still has them? Those are the Coker/Wheel Vintiques repros. Don't care for them.

Nice car.
