Did you pack some grease in the cap before you pounded the cap on? Did the cap just slide on or did you have to tap it on? And did you trim the cotter pin and get it as close to the spindle as possible? Hate to see you pull the bearings out if there's nothing wrong with them

I think I know what happened. I tightened the hell outta that castle nut. I did the passenger side correctly, but th drivers side I hit it wih the impact gun. I'm pretty sur that's what's wrong.I believe ur supposed to hand tighten the spindle nut and turn/rock the rotor to help the bearing seat. That putter bearing is shot. Yep. I packed the bearings with grease until it squeezed out. I'm going to take it all apart and get new bearings. Ill take care of it right after I get the smog.

I tighten mine with a pair of channel locks while i'm spinning the rotor. Even with the pliers I don't get it real tight just snug. Then back it off, osoally to the closet hole to get the cotter pin through. It sounds like you know how to do it, just got in too big of a hurry, it happens. But slow down now, lol.
I would replace the bearings and the races at the very least.

Thanks T! man im actually taking forever to finish this. I usually do about an hour a day after work, or an hour before work. That includes cleanup and puttin tools away. My girl was..."Are we almost done boo!!??" This whole job would take a pro a few hours to do. It takes more time with me stopping to make vids and pics too...

LOLOL!! Yep. Man I was freezing my balls off that morning. I remember exactly what I did now. LOL! The passengers side was done correctly. I just finished taking the driver side apart(3:30 am). Cleaned the rotors and inspected both bearings. They are good. No discoloration (brown or blue bearings) Both races are good as well. I re-packed the grease (Lucas "Red and Tacky") in the bearings and reasembled everything. This time I hand tightended the castle nut and spun the rotor to seat the bearings. I used the wrench to cinch it up lightly, and then backed off and lined the hole up. Codder (sp?) pin, more red and tacky, and then stole the cap off the SS and filled it with grease. This should take care of it. I need to get the car smogged today and its just around the corner. Then off to the alignment spot. I'll be off for 5 days (YESS!!) and will probably start the rear trailing arm install, install the new rear springs and drain/fill the rear end with fresh fluid and a gasket. Imma get a homie to help out so we can knock it out. Pics and vids will follow. Trying to knock this all out before the new 350 comes next month... I'll have a new thread started for that...

Thanks again fellas for all the help and tips! I really appreciate it. Hopefully the newbs will actually read thru the post and learn from the mistakes Ive made along the way. In all my post, pics and vids I show it all. The good, bad and ugly mistakes. LOL!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Be safe out there guys... 😀

All is good with the wheel bearings now. Thanks for all the tips fellas! BUT! I didn't pass smog. Blew me away cuz the car has passed everytime. Oh well. 350 next month and a under the table hookup  8)

Happy New Year to you too! Every time I see pics of your rides it makes me miss the West Coast. It's been about 15 years, but I was everywhere from San Diego up to the Bay. We used to hit this club in Riverside too. I think it was called the Metro?

I had a black/silver '85 442 that got stolen in Long beach, found in Compton stripped. I ruined the trans in my '85 SS while I was out there too and limped it back to base. You guys couldn't ask for better weather to be a gear-head though.

Hahaaa! The good ole "Ho Tro" er I mean Metro...Lol. Yeah it was closed down about 8 years ago. A young woman was shot dead and the owner let it go. Its a swap meet now. Thanks for checkin back on the ride bruh. Preciate' it. The weather is so nice right now! Cold but crystal clear. The elco is chillin while I take a road trip to Arizona. Quick turn around trip and then back on Elco. Doing the rear trailing arms and new springs. Be safe out there yall!
