Hi, I have been lurking here for a few months, but need some expert advice so I figured I should introduce myself before asking....it's only polite.

August 2016 I was in the market for a project car as I had started building a garage. I picked up:
  • 1987 Monte Carlo SS
  • T-Tops
  • 350 ZZ3 Engine
  • Blown Auto Transmission
First I built my garage and this winter I started the real project, removing the automatic and converting to a Tremec T5. I got a deal on a non world class so that's what is going in. I am at the end of the project and have some questions.

Photo access is blocked at work, I will try to get to them later.

I look forward to sharing what I learned in my project.

That T5 you is a WC The bolt I circled is a torx and in a non world class that is a hex bolt and the imput shaft is a 26 spline. If you look at the front at the bearing cover the cap will look like the one on the right for a WC, the one on the left in a NWC, You'll want to throw away the stock shifter and get a good aftermarket one that has stops on it. Make sure you fill the transmission with automatic transmission fluid and not the fluid the NWC uses. There is a bunch of other info in the other thread you started.

Not stealing your thread just want to say real quick. Pontiacgp knows his stuff. Very observant on those pics! He is right about your trans. It is a WC and don't use gear oil. Use Dexron 3 or equivalent. Also I saw your questions in another thread.

Thanks for the info. Here is a pic of the tag. I hope it is a WC. But i dont think so. Any help is appreciated. Its full of straight 50w oil so id have to change that ic it is a WC.

I appreciate any help, im a rookie!

Welcome to the site from Houston. I posted some info in your other thread. According to this, the 1352-186 T5 is from an 89 S10...

I'm not sure I buy that since the tailhousing is obviously F body.

Cool car and good looking shop!

I thought that too but if I think it's 1352-185 which is a 87 V8 F body.

The chart on this page also identifies it as an 89 S10 transmission.
http://www.britishv8.org/articles/borg-warner-t5-id-tags.htm
I wonder if it is a mish mash of parts or if this is an identification problem?
I wonder what the ratios in it really are? If it has that 4.03:1 1st gear, you might want a much higher rear end ratio, like 2.73 or 3.08.

4.03 1st x 3.73 rear = 15.03 final drive ratio in 1st. Insanely low. Granny gear.

4.03 x 2.73 =11.0 Still pretty steep but better.

2.37 2nd gear x 3.73 rear = 8.8.

You might just take off in 2nd, if the trans is geared the same as shown by those charts.

Assuming a 26" tire, a 0.76 overdrive gear and a 3.73 rear, you should turn 2931 RPM at 80. Not too bad.

Hopefully it's actually geared like a F body box.
