AR fans enter here ;)

When a hollow point hits it stops and expands.

A non hollow point will bounce around until it runs out of energy
Okay, I gotcha.

I've got a pair that I built myself, a 16" carbine & a 20" rifle. Both are civilan like versions of what I had on duty over the years. If I paid the tax stamp the carbine would of been a semi copy of my M4. The rifle is supose to me a M16A1 copy but has a heavy barrel cause I didn't feel like waiting for the correct barrel to show up months down the road. Now the one I built for an Army buddy about eight years ago is all that & two bags of chips. We built it based on personal experiances with a few tweeks that we wish we had. It's a hell of a home defense weapon. Two things he had to have was a 18" barrel & a night vision capable Eotech sight. The guy at the gun show asked why & we look at each other and said "cause we can". We thought about calling it the Mullet but it's all buisness.

An AR15 fires one bullet with each pull of the trigger just like any other semi automatic rifle.

Just because it looks like a military style rifle, It is not.

Ruger Mini 14 "looks" like an old fashion rifle still holds 30 rounds or more fires the same round as an AR, no one has a problem with it.

Or a Mini 30 fires the same as an AK

There are also full auto military firearms that have old fashioned woodstocks like the Suomi SMG. Also there are 100% civilian firearms that are all metal and plastic with pistol grips like the Hipoint 995 carbine. Pretty much every firearm ever designed, including hunting guns are devived from military designs. There is little difference between a bolt action hunting rifle and a bolt action sniper rifle for example. Even single shot, black powder rifles were once military arms. Basically like anything else, you can't judge a gun by its looks.

Cops are replacing MP5s for AR15s, because the tumble of 5.56s and .223s reduces the risk of overpenetrating walls and hitting bystanders. Even 9mms are more likely to overpenetrate walls than .223s, which further help to make the AR15 a good self defense weapon.

Can I ask you guys what you use them for? They're certainly not hunting rifles.
Steve,
An animal wouldn't have a chance against an AR or AK. Wouldn't that take the sport out of sport hunting? Just my observation. And again, I;m not looking to start a sh*t storm.

I'd argue the contrary. The most humane thing for an animal being hunted is for the hunter to have the most accurate, most dependable, and best cycling rate for a second shot.

It eliminates the wounded animals getting out of range and into cover before they can be put out of suffering.

Now, I'm not saying go full auto, there's no point in that. But, compare the time for an average Joe (no expert) to take a second shot with an AR-style versus a full on bolt action, it makes the difference between a lung shot animal wandering off to slowly die and sit unclaimed and a quick put down that is taken home to the table.

There are also a number of reasons to hunt that aren't "sport", including pest eradication. When trying to eliminate pests it's not about giving the target 'a fighting chance'

For me, I don't own anything AR-style... but I'd like to. I used to shoot a mix of black powder, breech load shotgun, and bolt action rifle, but a guy at my old firm had me try shooting his probably 10 years back. Surprisingly little recoil and was fun to shoot... For the past few years my neck/shoulder/back issues have meant Im not physically capable of anything. If I can get to the point of comfortably raising/holding the weight to my shoulder, I'd think the low recoil of the ar-style might let me get back into it again.

In other news, just last month a local-to-where-we-owned-property homeowner used his ar-style to shoot a group of armed teen gang types that were attempting a home invasion of the guys elderly mother. Luckily he was in town at the time, nominally a truck driver by trade meant he sometimes wasnt. Lots of reasons and uses for this type weapon IMO. when fighting for the lives of you or your loved ones you don't want to yell out "please stop, wait while I reload" - cause you know the bad guys won't.

Not a lot of media coverage on that one either, doesn't fit the narrative.

In home defense you want short barrel shot gun type of weapon. In a dark stressfull situation there's not always time to aim 100%, so a good center mass aimed 12/76 gets the job done in short distance.

🙄 I'm ok with this as long as the politics stays out of it, which should be about 2 days max. And we keep it in one thread.

Close range, big hole maker!

12ga shotguns protect my property?
