AR fans enter here ;)

I'd argue the contrary. The most humane thing for an animal being hunted is for the hunter to have the most accurate, most dependable, and best cycling rate for a second shot.

It eliminates the wounded animals getting out of range and into cover before they can be put out of suffering.

Now, I'm not saying go full auto, there's no point in that. But, compare the time for an average Joe (no expert) to take a second shot with an AR-style versus a full on bolt action, it makes the difference between a lung shot animal wandering off to slowly die and sit unclaimed and a quick put down that is taken home to the table.

There are also a number of reasons to hunt that aren't "sport", including pest eradication. When trying to eliminate pests it's not about giving the target 'a fighting chance'

For me, I don't own anything AR-style... but I'd like to. I used to shoot a mix of black powder, breech load shotgun, and bolt action rifle, but a guy at my old firm had me try shooting his probably 10 years back. Surprisingly little recoil and was fun to shoot... For the past few years my neck/shoulder/back issues have meant Im not physically capable of anything. If I can get to the point of comfortably raising/holding the weight to my shoulder, I'd think the low recoil of the ar-style might let me get back into it again.

In other news, just last month a local-to-where-we-owned-property homeowner used his ar-style to shoot a group of armed teen gang types that were attempting a home invasion of the guys elderly mother. Luckily he was in town at the time, nominally a truck driver by trade meant he sometimes wasnt. Lots of reasons and uses for this type weapon IMO. when fighting for the lives of you or your loved ones you don't want to yell out "please stop, wait while I reload" - cause you know the bad guys won't.

Not a lot of media coverage on that one either, doesn't fit the narrative.
Thank you sir for giving your perspective . It certainly opens my eyes a little wider to other possibilities which I have not given thought about. Like I said, I'm not looking to start a war, just wanted to hear other people's views on how these weapons are used...that's all.

Unfortunately a few of you had taken offense to my comment and inquiries. I guess this is another topic that probably shouldn't be discussed like politics and religion.

As long as people aren't throwing food at each other or name-calling, I don't know why you can't have reasonable discussions about why you like or not like something, or even having questions about it. Not allowing reasonable discussions is counter-productive.

But for some people, guns ARE like a religion, for some reason. Everyone has something they're passionate about.

For me, on the gun topic, I only take issues with people who want to curtail someone else's Constitutional right to purchase and own the gun of their choice (legally obtained). There are those that try the "but someone doesn't need 40 guns". Maybe, but there isn't a min or max limit on participating in 2nd amendment rights, so I don't see the issue. You're likely not going to be using more than 2 at a time anyway. As long as you're pursuing your happiness legally and not trampling my legally-obtained happiness, I have no problems.

The biggest question was never asked...Why do we love our G-bodies? There's over a million answers to that too, I'm guessing.

Ive been a gun owner for the majority of my life. Back in the day my favorite time of the year was small game season. These days Im happy putting holes in paper at 100 yards. That being said, I think the media had given the general public a distorted view of how guns work. Especially ARs and the like. I cant tell you how many conversations Ive had in the past few years where I've had to explain the difference between a semi and full automatic weapon. Even after those conversations people still ask why having an AR is such a popular thing. This is pretty much my standard reply.
Theyre light, hardly any recoil, cheap to build or buy, easy to clean and take apart, you can customize them with the zillion products made for them, ammo is pretty cheap and theyre just a lot of fun to shoot.
My next rifle will be a bolt action chassis rifle like the one below. A little heavy but considering I'll be bench shooting Im sure it will be just as much fun. As soon as the cars are done !!

🤦‍♂️ OK, last time I post in this thread. Talk about your guns and their jewelry, great, ok I guess. I don't get it but whatever. I have my own opinions which I'm sure aren't shared by most in this thread, or even on this site. Start climbing down the "gun control" rabbit hole and all that (from either side) and I'll shut it down. It's not necessary to talk about the hobby. Don't like the guns? Don't read the thread. Problems solved. Carry on.

so with the title you labeled me with "Canadian Prime Minister" I am banned from posting in this thread......😢

You should be banned from the site!!!!!!!!

I read no hostility into any of your posts. In fact, I appreciate the honest questions. If you get more curious, I encourage you to spend some time with your friend who builds them at the range. You might just find you like them too. In fact, you have an open invitation here, should you ever find yourself in my neck o the desert.
