Meh, they're a viable option, but not what I want. My 02 Silverado has a 6.0, hasn't had any internal issues, but ALL the peripherals have been replaced multiple times. Every engine swap has it's place as far as I'm concerned.

I was pretty pissed when the lifter in my 08 Sierra started ticking. It was fairly low mile and I ran it for a good while ticking. I used it as excuse to do the Hot Cam swap and eliminated those DOD lifters. I've read of other early production DOD lifter failures so I know it isn't a total aberration, but overall, I think the platform is pretty bullet proof.
My had the lifter tick, took it to the GMC/Caddy dealer that sold it, they claimed they couldn't hear anything. Then when it happened they said it as a #7 lifter followed by the good news of cost of lifters only, with cam, them complete engine. Then came the best news-the warranty forever included with the sale of the truck was voided cause I replaced the plugs at 100k-had to be done by an ASE shop in the super fine print they never brought up even when I did the change when they asked to do it with the oil change at the same mileage.

Be advised: It's going to show up with a bad cam. I'm not going to sleep well at night until this engine has been completely rebuilt. I highly suspect the front oiling passage is sub-par. It needs attention that I can't afford at the moment. Especially if your horsepower numbers are legitimate. I only hit 260hp after weather correction factor and 15% drivetrain loss. What's your compression again?

IIRC: He has a same-model-year fully-intact 305 HO in his Regal. All done by the book. Clone TIE Pilot has always taken this stuff very seriously. He actually wonders how we sleep at night, being the Rebel Scum that we are. (Star Wars references!! *ba-dum tss!!*)
Same as yours, 7.8-8:1. Idc about a bad cam, or whatever, providing I can get it for free of course 😛P Doing the math, my car could poot down the 1/4 at 15.0 all day when it had the slippy th350 (higher stall? lol). With my setup with the 195s and 2.41s, that makes out to be anywhere from 240 to 270hp. I'd say happy medium 255 at the crank. Not bad from the 155 stock with nothing but a 4 barrel swap, 0.030 over and a cam. PS: I live like 8 hours away from you. If you're talking about the SP 350 in my signature, that's just what it was rated. With aluminum heads, they are two-three steps above what you can port iron heads too. Giant valves, they actually have a quench pad instead of being a big derpy circle.

They voided your warranty because you replaced the spark plugs? They need sued.

I don't totally follow your post. I'm guessing you were mad when you were typing. Understandably so.

My Dart Big M block was cast in 2016 does that mean I need emissions for that year in my Monte.

Good question, to start with that is a bare block instead of a complete CARB/EPA certified engine configuration. However, if you build that bare block to the specs of the stock original engine, then it would be considered the same as the original engine. This is why mass market engine remanufacturers have not been fined out of business years ago. Engine date codes mainly come into play with kit cars and other homebuilds.

Main point is you are not allowed to downgrade the engine configuration to one that is older than the car or otherwise non approved configuration.

This legal stuff .... being in the aforesaid California, I've got a line of fat comb-bound printout volumes in my bookcase, all the state and federal laws and regulations. Mind boggling. What continues to amaze me the most is that, not only are you forbidden to degrade your emissions, in many cases you are forbidden to improve them, simply because the bureaucracy can't handle it. Case in point: Clone's reason why it's illegal to put an LS in a G. I understand that comes with the territory (pun), but I'm certainly more tired of that than I am of the LS craze. 😀

I'm sure the flathead guys were saying the same thing in 1959.

My neighbor growing up was indeed saying exactly that, and in right about that year, rebuilding a '49 or '50 Ford coupe from the ground up. Sure it wasn't the "best around," but it was his, and it was a cool car.
