Me and Pontiac have a big worry about them since kW is like the Silicon Valley of Canada we have a few major companies including Google which this summer should be starting there testing here

I don't worry about them at all. It will be just another expensive toy on the market which will only be interesting to the people who like them. They won't have any affect on others. The mode of transportation I can't wait for was used in the Jetsons documentaries

The main applications would be commercial -- delivery vehicles, long-haul big rigs -- where companies are desperate to cut costs by eliminating labor. But costs would actually be higher, at least for a while, because you'd still need somebody behind the wheel and he'd need specialized training, too.

Plus, there's another problem I forgot about: It seems these things have a serious need for bright, clear lines along the shoulders and between lanes, otherwise they get confused about where the road is. I don't know if I see that getting taken care of any time soon, just to accommodate these things.

The only line in the sand is the one I need to draw wrt stuff like this (borderline political garbage) 🙄 But conspiracy theories amuse me so I will let it continue for the time being.

I see a lot of stuff coming *out* of this research, as has already been. Collision avoidance & warning systems, that sort of thing. This is still way way off before the highways are full of roving automatic Johnny Cabs™ and Autobots™ and even then it will never replace a person behind the wheel, so long as they have to share the same roads.

That's what trains are for, but that's another thread.

There will always be those few, who attempt fate. I am thankful for survival of the fittest. If you treat you "driverless" vehicle as a regular vehicle you should have no issues. I mean sure you drop something and look down to pick it up, or you yawn for a lengthy amount of time. There is a difference between carelessness / recklessness and being responsible. These cars are on our roads whether we like it or not. Im not for big brother watching our every move but there are other options that could ensure a safer driver. Much like the technology in some cameras a facial recognition. Perhaps something similar to keep the car driving with out driver assistance. Needless to say there will be people who pay for it.

I disagree with the theory that politicians and corporations will stop anywhere short of replacing truckers with robots and I fully believe that is the entirety of their intent. I live near the 'South Shore' train - if you do not know what that is look it up, it is the last train that goes up the middle of a street (10th st & 11th st.) and fed laws recently went into effect setting a timeline for 'driverless' robotic systems to be installed on it. They do not 'care' about you. Watch what happens to all the CTA/Metra employees they are getting ready to lay off and replace with robots right now. They sit in lodges next to posters that place caring right above understanding, with your tax dollars crumpled up on poker tables. I may be paranoid but it doesn't mean they are not trying to get you. Google has already sent driverless cars out onto the road in California illegally and they did crash. Obama administration officials have attended dozens of meetings with google in the recent past. These are verifiable facts you can look up yourself online. If we move to ban autonomous cars you will see a huge amount of resistance because millions of dollars have already been invested by tech companies to take you out of the driver's seat whether you want to believe in it or not denial is more than a river in Egypt. You would not have made it out of Egypt, if you had been Jewish as my ancestors, nor would you have escaped Stalin as my great grandfather's family did. Watch how much resistance we get if we start a petition to ban autonomous cars. You are like the people sitting with virtual reality headsets on oblivious as Mark Zuckerberg walks down the aisle only inches away at that conference the other day. I suggest you un-friend him as soon as possible. Demolition Man is on my list of top ten worst movies ever made but I never thought I would live to see the day it was becoming close to existence in reality. Prepare to get 'obliviated' by the socialists. You will bend over willingly after they make that a law in 50 years too.

I had started typing a reply until the last two messages popped up. Against my better judgement, I'm going to let those messages stand, despite the obvious reason that should make me delete them and hand out a ban**. You do understand the context of that photograph, right? A product launch that was about 20 years too late and will ultimately fail miserably because we realized (20 years ago) that "VR" was just stupid and only of interest to Hollywood and conspiracy theorists. It's not Mark Zuckerberg "enslaving" anyone. Google glass was a miserable failure, too, for basically the same reasons.

Seriously, seek help, friend. I don't know what else to say to that. Obama is not in cahoots with Google and Tesla and Oculus Rift to take over the world in a big socialist coup so they can crush everyone's car to melt down into hammers and sickles. Really.

Oh, in a couple of weeks I'll be riding the Yurikamome monorail line out to Odaiba, check out some kewl robots and video games. No driver. Totally automated. Gonna be awesome. Then I'm going to go to Taco Bell for sushi.

I have seen Zeitgeist and a few other Conspiracy documentaries. Yes, they are intriguing and they do make you think that this could be happening. What everything truly boils down to, is if you have a Job you've already conformed. You're already a "slave" to the Federal government. And that it is much larger than MZ and Obama. It reaches everyone. Third world countries and even prospering ones. You've already been affected, it is too late to think outside the box. The Grind is real. Everyone seeks answers to the things that aren't put out in the media. Your answers are based on someone elses potentially biased opinions. Which should make you ask are you truly thinking for yourself or are Chemtrails jamming your brain up. So which is right? In my opinion, it doesn't matter, I work a 9-5, I have a house, a couple of cars, food in my family's bellies and clothes on our backs. You are entitled to your opinion, unless big brother is tying that up too. These vehicles are an image of were Technology is going. And it is based on the same technologies we use everyday. To make things easier, or more enjoyable. Hydrogen Fuel cell vehicles are where its at. Too bad oil companies bought that idea out and crushed it to jack up fuel prices. Am I right?
