Barrett Jackson Sucks

no one is forcing the bidders to bid and if they really wanted a car that they choose to bid on they could buy it privately for much less than the elevated price at the Barrett-Jackson auction.

June 2014. 18 acres, 1500sf, 3 bed 2 bath, 24x30 metal building on slab with electric....$125000.

Also 10 miles from any town

By contrast. the house we sold was 1580SF, 3 bed 2 bath, 20x20 attached In Edmond, .1597 acres, sold for $160000

It's all about location, new house is 27 miles from Edmond house

About B-J and the like....it's the buyer's money, let them spend it how they want.Obviously they value this stuff more than we do. It's why I will never own a rare car...I like to drive them.

Rare and desirable are not necessarily always the same thing. A cherry Malibu “Iraqi Taxi” with factory A/C may be rare, but outside of GBF, likely nobody gives a $#!+. I’m more interested in “obscure but cheap” than “trailer queen rich guy toy.”

I keep telling myself the wagon will be worth something someday, because they only made it for two years (the Regal, at least).

Of course, if I drop the estimated $40-50k into it, I know I’ll probably never be able to recoup that. Don’t really care. Don’t plan on ever selling it, and if and when I do have kids, passing it down to them, or driving it until it’s outlawed, whichever comes first.

Around Pittsburgh, $125,000 will buy you a small to medium sized house that needs remodeled in a decent neighborhood. Put $50,000 in it and you can flip it for $210,000. That's a big generalization, because you can be in Mount Washington and that house will sell for $600,000, meanwhile, if you are a few blocks down in Mount Oliver, you'd be out of your mind to sink $50,000 into a house there, but if you did, that same house might get $100,000 on the best damn real estate day in history.

Location, location, location.

OK housing has always been cheap. My $62K house in Wichita Falls, I had guys working for me that commuted in from north of Fredrick (90 miles one way, every day). Their excuse was "housing was cheaper". Cheaper than $62K for 1,800 SF with a 3 car garage? Yes.

That's true, But I've talked to people who have bought multiple cars at B-J and they say its worth the extra money to them, because if something is misrepresented in a car you buy, B-J will take it out on the seller for you and they don't have time for the hassle.

The week of car shows, drinking/partying with the friends is just a bonus.

I regret to inform you that my hometown has a rampant, ongoing gang/crime problem. People are moving further away from Columbus to escape it.

That is too bad. We are investing hundreds of millions in Columbus and probably creating 800 aerospace jobs in the next few years. Two years out of college salaries for engineers is around $80K + benefits which is pretty good money for 25 year olds not having to pay big city rents/expenses.

We went Sunday afternoon, There were some real bargains, A 57 Thunderbird went for $31,000 and a Grand National went for $41.000. We saw a gorgeous Model A Phaeton. That must have cost $100,000 to restore go for a mere $28,000 . Sunday is the day to go if you want a nice driver car.
