17ma is not enough to to worry about for a draw. 17ma draw is probably coming from ecm, radio, and/or clock. i would focus your attention next on the charging system. 14.5 volts is your target.

I wonder if anyone here lives close to you that could loan you a battery, my red top just sits around for the winter and I would gladly loan it to you if I was in your area. If not do you have an Interstate battery store near you?. They sell rebuilt batteries with a warranty that are very reasonably priced
