Looking for suggestion and best bang for your buck. Nothing to stiff, a nice ride. 1 inch drop and no more than 2. Any suggestions (combos) ?

There are tons of threads on the subject in the chassis section.

Personally, I believe using factory F41 sway bars and braces are the most economical way to really tighten up the car. A bigger front sway bar , a rear sway bar , jounce bars, inner fender braces, and a Gp bar are all factory pieces developed by Gm to strengthen the weak points of the frame. With a little effort, you can still get these parts at the junkyards. The best part is that all of these parts simply bolt right on to any GBody . That's right, no drilling, welding or fab work. I realize there are companies making bigger, stronger and better parts but you can probably get all of those factory parts for less money than an aftermarket front sway bar. I've sold and installed these parts on several cars and it is like night and day.. Plenty of info on this site , timo22

It is also said that Regals were built intentionally omitting several of the lower body bushings and that you can really tighten up the car by putting in bushings where they were left out. This is just one thread. There are others and I encourage you to do your own surfing....

I would suggest replacing all the body bushings and putting in all possible bushings. Do that and put in some F41 braces....

And you will be well on your way. Spring selection and what else to do gets into pretty subjective territory. Stiff to one person is just right to another. As stated, numerous venders offer lowing springs. Other than that, you could go with stock replacement F41 springs (think Monte Carlo SS) but they might actually raise the car up depending on how tired the stock springs are. Another popular route is to use stock replacement springs from an F-body or an S-10 and trim them to get the desired stance. This link is great information but takes some careful study to fully understand.....

Beyond that there are numerous threads on aftermarket control arms (front and rear), F41 sway bars, F-body sway bars, rubber or poly bushings etc. It's like anything else. The sky is the limit. The more you study, the better you can determine how much you want to do. Hope this helps.

Shocks: on the more budget friendly end of the spectrum, KYB Gas-adjust shocks are popular. Above that, Bilstein shocks are well liked. Above that, custom tuned Bilsteins from several of the suspension vendors are available. Beyond that, coil overs.
It all depends on how you will use the car, how you want the car to ride and perform, and what you want to spend.

Definitely hit the junkyard for bolt on suspension upgrades. I have 17 gbody bars on my car as well as all umi suspension. I love it the car is absolutely amazing and handles extremely well.
Keep in mind you might want to go for a 2 in drop. If not your original saggy springs swapped out for 1in lowering springs will most likely raise the car....

I had worn out v6 front springs and 2in lowering springs only made the car .25 in Lower than it was with the worn out saggy springs...

Ditto Timo22 - The Regal has a pretty nice ride as is and a good choice of shocks will enhance it. Rather than spending money on the suspension for a one inch drop think about wheels/tires.

You didn't mention the application of your car but since you stated you didn't want anything too firm i'll assume it's a street car.

If your in the market for a complete suspension overhaul our stage 2 kit... http://umiperformance.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=8_265_423 ... Is a great upgrade for a customer looking to get rid of the "G-Body shuffle". with this kit we basically replace all the flimsy stamped steel factory components and replace them with tubular components and polyurethane bushings, upgrade the front and rear sway bars and correct some geometry in the front a-arms. This will give you a similar to factory ride(nothing to harsh) while improving handling greatly.

If your looking to upgrade in stages and all your current components are in good condition I would start with shocks and springs. We offer non adjustable gas charged shocks that we developed specifically for the G-Body platform, these coupled with our 600lb front and 130 lb rear coil springs are a great start on upgrading your suspension to a more modern day handling car.

If you need any info or pricing or just want to discuss what each component will accomplish feel free to call me here at the shop.

For just a 1" drop, tall lower ball joints.

Will improve handling and bumpsteer and have zero effect on ride/suspension travel. The only mod needed is to cut clearance in the brake dust shields.

An Fbody hollow front sway bar, Cutlass jounce bars, a pro touring style rear sway bar and if the car isn't rusty, replace the just the lower missing body bushings with actual bushings.
