After all this talk about LS1's my sh*t is hard. Thats the way I'm going. It'll be a long build but I can't go through putting anything else in and regreting not going with the LS1.
Whats the difference between a LS1 5.3 Truck motor Vs. the LS1 in the WS6 Trans Am and the Camero & Vette? I couldn't imagin much :?:

I thought it was a 5.7 though.....

Found This:

Corvette LS1
Type 5.7 liter V-8
Displacement Displacement 5.665 liters or 345.69 cubic inches
Horsepower 345 @ 5600 rpm
Torque (lb-ft) 350 @ 4400 rpm
Max. Engine Speed 6000 rpm
Fuel System Sequential Fuel Injection
Bore/Stroke 99.00/92.00mm (3.90/3.62 in.)
Firing Order 1-8-7-2-6-5-4-3
Valve Config. Overhead Valves
Valve Lifters Hydraulic Roller (Rocker arm ratio 1.7:1)
Emissions Control Three-way catalyst, AIR, PCV
Engine Materials
Block Cast aluminum
Cylinder Head Cast aluminum
Intake Manifold Composite
Exhaust Manifold Insulated dual wall stainless steel
Main Bearing Caps Powered metal
Crankshaft Cast iron with undercut and rolled fillets
Camshaft Hollow steel
Connecting Rods Powered metal

THE TRUCK MOTORS HAVE DIFFERENT INTAKES. THEY ARE TALLER TO MAKE LONGER RUNNERS FOR MORE LOW RPM TORQUE. THE 5.3 COMES IN AN ALL ALUMINUM BLOCK AND HEADS OR CAST IRON BLOCK WITH ALUMINUM HEADS. IF YOU REALLY WANTED TO YOU CAN GET THE 6.0L OUT OF A DENALLI OR ESCALADE. CHECK HOT ROD MAG. THEY DID A 6.0L TRUCK MOTOR WITH CARB THAT MADE 500 HORSES. THE 4.8, 5.3 AND 6.0 ARE ALL THE SAME ON THE OUTSIDE.

The big block Olds is a bolt-in with the 307 mounts. Use A-body W/Z exhaust manifolds. I've heard conflicting reports that the valve covers either do or don't clear the A/C box.

With stock valve covers, they will clear the A/C box.

Well dang I need to know the people you know cuz I dont know anybody that has the ls1 sitting around. If they have it then they want too much for it.

Make a trip or contact Kirby's Auto Parts in Rosewood Ohio. They have thousands of cars out there ready for picking. They take in over 30 cars a day for pick or crush. You pull the part, and its your's for MUCH less. Just like any other salvage yard in the states. After my wife ran her camero dry on oil I was out there debating on replacing the motor or selling the car. They had three at the time.

What kind of cars do they normally have out there? Is it mainly newer or older cars?

Mostly older. I mainly go to one junkyard because the others are way overpriced.

I'VE DONE BBCHEVY, AND LT1 SWAPS.. I HAVE BEEN THINKING OF AN LS1 SWAP. YOU CAN GET A 5.3 TRUCK MOTOR FOR AROUND 800-1200 COMPLETE FROM A JUNK YARD, THE MOUNTS AND OIL PAN ARE AVAILABLE FROM SEVERAL COMPANIES. YOU CAN RUN A CARB INTAKE KIT FROM GM. IT COMES WITH AN IGNITION BOX TO USE THE COIL ON PLUG IGNITION WITH NO COMPUTER TO KEEP COST DOWN. HOT ROD DID A DYNO TEST ON THE 5.3 WITH A CAM SWAP AND A CARB AND MADE 440 HP ON THE STOCK HEADS AND BOTTOM END. I ALSO SAW A FORD IN HOT ROD THAT HAD THE STOCK 5.3 LS MOTOR WITH A CAM AND A TURBO KIT RUNNING 10S. REALLY GETS YOU THINKING.

I been thinking about the carb route with the ls1 but wouldn't that really defeat the purpose of doing the ls1. I personally want to do it for the realiability and power all in one package. I know I can go the lt1 route but why do that when I might as well do the ls1.

X2. If I was doing the swap, I would keep the fuel injection.
