Big Block Question

Depending on the engine you start with, it won't save you any money to carb an LS. You can get a stand alone engine management system that will let you run the EFI for similar money to the carb conversion (Megasquirt, anyone?), which is way over $1,000 by the time you do it right. Keeping the EFI also lets you use a lot of stock replacement parts, thus making the car easier to maintain than if you used a lot of specialty hot rod parts.

Also, TURN OFF YOUR CAPS LOCK!!!!!!!!

man that could be a whole other thread..... 🙂 I mean.....theres gonna be a ton of opinions on carb'ed or EFI motors. I personaly would rather run a carb that way the motor is easyer to tear down if needed. Keeping in mind I have a month or so untill I finish the truck in my shop before I can go hunting for a motor; I don't have to have my mind made up yet....

Sorry if I was speeking too loudly. Most of us are already running carbs so the only mod needed would be the intake kit assuming you already have a good carb. Running the FI requires a good fuel pump and also plumbing in a return. It still uses all of the other stock pieces. Running the FI would also require a harness and ecm. Some like the megasquirt, I do not. Talk about losing the reliability of the stock parts. Running the FI is definately the best way to go but not the most budget freindly. Also keep in mind, I suggested using the truck motor. The truck motor intake will not clear a stock hood. Also, 2003 and older truck motors have a belt driven cooling fan. One less expence. The LS motor is solid in carb or FI. The advantage comes from the cooling in the motor. The heads run cooler which allow higher compression ratios on pump gas. A old school small block with same cam and compression as a LS motor would not be able to be as streetable, carbed or injected.
