It took me 3 different local autoparts stores to find the right length v-belt for my custom passenger side ac compressor set up on my Regal and then I ended up ordering the same length but a little wider in a Continental belt from Summit and took the local one back.

It use to be we took a string to measure the length and headed to the store with the measurement on a piece of paper and got the belt we needed by measuring the belt with a tool like this..

I used a 3/8" nylon rope around the 2 pulleys and then laid a cloth tape measure over that and got the exact measurement I needed but it was a .5 size to get the compressor where I wanted it when tightened and everyone had 1" increments at that length other than Autozone where I got the belt and everyone else wanted vehicle info.
The belt length is measured on the OD of the belt which is why I do it this way plus I know going in what the length is supposed to be.

that vehicle info requirement is ridiculous if we have to list the vehicle where each part came from. My GP ranges from 1967 to 1995

I have been to a Chevrolet dealership to get a transmission yoke for a Super T-10 for my 1979 Z-28 RS Camaro. Because I was converting it from a Turbo 350 to a Super T-10 ..And they had some 20 something youngster.Who didn`t even know what I was talking about, And this was the original dealership that the car was shipped to from the Van Nuys plant..Then I saw a counterman who had some grey in his hair. And he hooked me up right away. They need more counterman like those .Not just someone who just looks up part numbers on a computer.

On that I have had luck using a cloth measuring tape .Like our mothers used for making clothes.because it can wrap around the pulleys .

I have to pick up some 3/4" heater hose, I think I'll be ok getting that but these days you never know....😎

Probably be 19mm....at least the last few times I have bought hose, it has been labelled in mm. World (metric) market is a lot bigger than the (inches) USA market

That is strange cause here in Canada it was still 3/4" when I bought it a couple of years ago.. I'll let you know what it is today though.

I recall when I was a young lad of 20, I worked at a Buick dealer in the parts dept. There was a female parts counter person there, Sadie. She was sharp as a tack. many times she didn't have to bother looking up part #'s, she'd just rattle them off off the top of her head and I'd go pick them. She was an older gal that worked in the business a long time.

I do miss the old mom and pop parts stores. You asked for a part and they'd go right to the shelf and pull it...unlike today, they want a complete history of your car, even for something minute like a brake line, or something of that nature. Sometimes I miss the good ole' days.
