Good knowledgeable parts people are worth their weight in gold.

to the customer they are. to the company, they are overpaid idiots that are dragging the profits to the shareholders down.... ask me how I know....

The problem is there is just so many friggin' parts. I worked in a shop many years ago and there were 2 female parts people. They were awesome. The local parts place has a female manager that is awesome. If it wasn't for cell phones women would rule the world

The world needs more like Paige.Parts people aren't what they used to be that's for sure but neither are cars and car parts these days..i do miss the older part guys that when you ordered a hub and bearing they'd send you the snap ring because they knew you needed it but forgot to order it.
i bought a line loc one day,it was in a case so i needed help getting getting it as it wasn't on the shelf.the kid says "oh ok what kinda car is it for?"....Sure he was just doing his job but going to autozone and ask for help with wipers and they ask is it two or four wheel drive.

Am sure a lot of today's parts people haven't taken Auto Tech or know of cars in general or CARE... I was the first female to graduate from the Auto Tech program at the local community college I attended in the late '70's. The next female to graduate from there was 24 YEARS LATER! I wanted to quit that program so many times as I was harassed by most of those damn boys and one of the teachers all the time! But my parents kept telling me I couldn't quit and I'm so glad they did, as to this day, I really appreciate all of the knowledge I gained and I feel like I completed one of the biggest accomplishments in my life! If the harassment I went thought happened today, those students and one teacher would be in deep poop! Working as the Parts/Service Manager for 9.5 years at the local Chrysler/Plymouth dealership helped in my automotive knowledge way more than the Auto Tech program did! They didn't even teach you about fuel injection and front wheel drive if I recall correctly! So, when I go to the parts store or repair shop, I'm not scared at all as many women (and some men) would be. I can speak with them on their level and understand most of what they're telling me. Of course, a lot of today's vehicle systems I don't know anything about, but if the mechanic tells me about it I can start understanding it.

A friend of mine has a KIA van and it was making an awful noise and she took it to about two repair shops and they couldn't figure out what was making the noise or couldn't "hear" it! She had me test drive the van. The minute I backed it out of my driveway, I knew what it might be! I was right, it was the CV joint and it was about to go out! She was very grateful that "I" figured out what was wrong when the men she had look at it didn't "hear" the noise or look at it on a hoist! I'm not able to get on the ground because of a replacement knee, but hearing the noise was enough for me to figure it out! The repair shop that she took the van to to get the joint replaced said it was too dangerous to drive that way, so I literally saved my friend's life as she lives 30 miles from town! My automotive knowledge is priceless! Many women only wanted to talk with me when I worked at the dealership, as I made them feel more comfortable. Good thing Paige checked out the thread pitch on the oil pan plug! Wonder if Doug even knows what thread pitch is what metric and standard means when it comes to bolts etc.???

When I was a kid I got a driver job at an auto parts store. When I wasn't driving, I had my head in the books looking up parts for my own junk. So by having my head in a book I became "counterman" by default. Granted, there were less parts then than now and sometimes you were better off sending a driver to pick up a part if there were multiple options but geez. I was there the day they installed the first computer system (green letters on a black background) and therefore witness to the beginning of western society's downfall.

When I worked in various (Buick, and Ford) parts departments, of course it was pre-computer days. Everything was on index cards and microfiche.

It all comes down to the all mighty dollar. To hire a bubble head it's cheap an for most minimum wage, to get someone that knows something about parts is going to cost more!

7 years ago one of my daughters got hired as a counter person at a Ford dealers , l laugh an laugh about it when she told me. She could barely figure out where the gas went in. She got paid bare minimum but now 7 years later she's the go to parts person at the dealership an makes a fair wage.

To me l will always pay more for better service, an parts stores should realize this as well!!

Hopefully the bubble heads learn something and quick cause its getting to the point where everything is going to be plug and play soon and it's getting so easy to just look it up yourself an order it online.

Awesome for you. I used to do a radio talk show and had a lot of women email me questions about cars and such. What I learned early in my career as an auto shop owner is that there are a lot of single women who drive and a lot of women control the check book in the family. Just ask me...my wife and I share the check book. She gets the colored pages in the front and I get the white pages in the rear. I now work with a bunch of women for the first time in my life and they are awesome. It is unfortunate that I deal with people and people of other cultures that continue to downgrade and underestimate women. I don't get it. Go girl

Probably be 19mm....at least the last few times I have bought hose, it has been labelled in mm. World (metric) market is a lot bigger than the (inches) USA market

It's still a 3/4" heater hose sold by a foot at $1.49 , they charge me for 4 feet cause there was 5.5 feet left on the role so I got me a spare...
