the over complicated electronics is the achillies heel

The poor babies just don't know where to draw the line. Give them an inch and they'll take a mile. The point of diminishing returns. Keep it simple stupid. The design is finished not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to remove. And numerous other old saws from earlier eras of human experience.

Here's a Fun Fact. If I got my grimy hands on one of those Olds 350 diesels, I could swap that fine baby into my G-body and turn up at smogcheck with it belching smoke, and they'd rubber stamp it and send me on my way. Wouldn't even need to take it to a Referee.

I've been tempted to do that just to blow smoke in their faces. Couldn't quite bring myself to do it. 😀

Mount St Helen beats that. it put out 2 million metric tons of sulfur dioxide was released in its 1980 eruption and since then daily sulfur dioxide emissions range from 500 tons to 2,000 tons."

I love the sensors that sense whether the sensors are working or not.

Are you quite sure that's beyond the capability of the Olds? 😀

Interesting point, though.

Here's another one - those dummy gauges that they put in some cars now that just show the needle in the middle of the normal range no matter what the sensor is actually reading until it is too late.

That is probably for the best. A guy makes a "Real Gage" conversion board kit for Jaguar XK8/XKR's that displays the true sensor reading and general feeling of those who installed it is "I should not have done that" Now they worry about things they never worried about before. Probably needlessly.

And It's much easier to notice a swing from 50% to 95% than notice one from 85% to 95%.

If you REALLY need to know the actuals, those are all in the data stream and we can now read those off our phones for $3 (there's a App for that)

WOW ! asking $4k lol

I emailed them the other day asking about the "air purifier" coming off the exhaust manifold..so far no answer.
