Biggest mechanical pet peeve

Camaros are rwd

and never had the s/c 3800, only the na version.

And Aussie emissions are far tighter than in the USA

Ah .... but that doesn't matter, if the cars aren't certified here. The "certified configuration" is the only thing these rules know about. They literally will not allow you to retrofit a heated O2 sensor.

Endless catch-22s like these add up to California smog being my "biggest mechanical pet peeve."

EDIT: But I just double-checked the specs on that s/c 3800, and I think you'd be better off with the intercooled GN motor anyway, which is perfectly legal in any G-body. Heck, you might even be better off with the non-intercooled "Hot Air" motor.

From what I read you can still supercharge the camaro 3800 with factory parts and still be legal

The hacked wires have to be the biggest pet peeve I have. Why do people think they can add any wire in part in with ease just to cut wrong wires, tap into the wrong circut, use duct tape, leave wires poorly insulated, use the wrong gauge/type of wire, use the worst/cheapest wire taps & ends, recreate a circut, & call it custom but it looks like a big bowl of spaghetti.

And specifically when the wires are too short, they splice in a couple feet of wire, but splice a red wire into the black wire and the black wire into the red wire "because the colors don't matter, do they?".

Rule of thumb.....don't go by wire color after I wire something up......I am literally colorblind

In California? Where you read? I was wrong about truck motors, who knows.

The factory supercharger is legal 50 states on cars like the gtp. And a supercharger itself has no sensors in it period let alone for emissions. What I read is its perfectly legal to supercharge your engine as long as its c.a.r.b. approved.....which the factory m90 is. Also mentioned another option is a procharger CSC which carries a c.a.r.b. 50 state legal tag

Not mechanical but one pet p of mine is painted door latches. I've seen some nice paint jobs but spraying the latch assemblies kills it for me. Don't even get me started on hardware store fasteners for body panel attachment

My friend and I named his '72 K10 the Bubbamobile because it looked like Uncle Bubba had used every fastener he could find to slap it together to sell to us EBay suckers. Buried the bodies in Bondo and spraybomb undercoating. Then it got worse. I decided to open up the 350 and make sure all was kosher - he sourced main cap bolts from the same garage floor.

If anybody has any doubts, a car project is a BUYER BEWARE.

People calling a center bolt valve cover small block Chevy a Vortec motor....
