Next spring when I re-rebuild my engine (10:1 compression, headers, aluminum intake, etc) I want to have the heads ported and polished and the EGR ports blocked off. I am 99% sure these are the ports and they make carbon ball up and what not and accumulate and make the intake hot. M V6 was completely plugged there and I don't want that to happen to the engine once I re-rebuild it. How much do you think a shop would charge to weld in some metal to cover them up on both heads and clean up the ports and polish the chambers?

At the very least I can take an aggressive sanding bit and smooth out the chambers and ports and port match the heads to the aluminum intake myself.

You're going to rebuild it again? Something wrong with it?

Depends on what you are using your car for. Some hi po intakes (Vic Jr) don't have heat cross over so there is nothing to worry about. You can also use a metal shim (stainless) with your gasket and block it. Head work at a shop can get quite costly, you might look at aftermarket.

I have vortec heads which have no egr port. Without the egr the combustion chamber temperatures are hotter and the timing has to be backed off a little. I plan to install an egr system on the car. I don't see how you can complaint the egr port was blocked with carbon after 3 decades of driving.

Really the only reason I'd do this is the ONLY people that make intakes for the 350 are TA Performance out of AZ and their intakes (The SP1 dual plenum and the SP3 open) have no provisions for EGR. I was told that the egr ports in the heads can make a hot spot on both sides of the intake and make things run weird. I don't mind backing off timing a tad to compensate and there are no laws in Iowa where I live regarding emissions and such. Not so much as a visual inspection 😀 If it's that much of a hassle to do it I'll install the EGR setup, but IMO it's ugly and takes up space.

No, nothing's wrong aside from my carburetor mishap, which admittedly is 100% my fault. I just want to get more out of this engine next go around. Aiming for 300 crank hp if I can. Want to be as fast as a GN/GNX, but with a Buick 8 instead of a 6. 1/4 mile times indicate at least 225-250 at the crank. 15 flat at 95 mph with 3 speed and 2.29 gear. And 300+hp with a 3600lb car and my specs should just break into like 13.9 if I'm correct.

I have a Buick 455. Install an Edelbrock Performer intake on that Buick 350 and enjoy.

They dont make them for the 350. Literally the only people that make stuff for the SBB is TA Performance.
