Bucket Seat Applications

The previous owner of my wagon put buckets in place of the bench. But the hack only bolted them in on the outside edges. Call me weird but I swapped them out for a 60/40 bench (including welding in the inner floor mounts) because at the time I needed the extra seating position in the middle front and I also like the armrest feature.

I still have the buckets. They're decent but not perfect. They're dark blue velour and I'd let them go cheap. But I just haven't gotten around to advertising them. I was thinking of hitching a small trailer to the wagon and taking a bunch of stuff to the swap meet in the Spring.

But it's the shipping that's likely to be big cost.

Uhm, yeah... the Vast Majority of G-Bodies were Bench. You got that a bit backwards.

Maybe you were thinking Mustang, where that is true.. (roughly 20% were actually ordered with a bench seat - I would be pretty comfortable with that percentage, in reverse, for G-Bodies)

As for your replacements, look into Firebird/Camaro seats. The pick-n-pull places run specials now and again. I caught a set of buckets for $25.

To show what I DON’T KNOW, since mine originally had a 60/40 seat, all 4 mounting points were already there. Are you saying that you have to install the floor bracket from another car that had buckets/60/40 ? If so, THAT SUCKS! Guess I dodged a bullet on that one.
For others that have bench seats & considering a swap, there are aftermarket G-body specific brackets available for buckets & 60/40 seats (Google g-body bucket seat mounts). As for possible donors, here in TX, I find S10 blazer seats are the most common find in wrecking yards. I have a clean pair sitting in my shop now that I picked-up on C-list a couple years ago for $125.

The brackets are spot welded in place from the factory. For someone w/o a welder, after removing all the carpet & padding you could mock up their placement & have a local muffler shop tack them in for a few bucks. I did 2 bucket seat swaps using brackets from wrecking yard cars (Regal T-type/Monte Carlo SS) before the aftermarket ones were available. I'll likely do yet another but will utilize the aftermarket brackets this time & look forward to not having to pry them off the floor w/o worrying about damaging them in the removal process.

For those into similar year trucks, the Suburban bucket seat brackets are a common similar swap when a guy wants buckets in his C10/20/30 truck vs. a bench seat.

If you look in the for sale section I have some gray reclining 85 442 bucket seats you can have for free. Not rusted, foams are great, but they will need new covers. These are not tore just faded. No tracks. Problem is they are in Mesa az and shipping will be expensive. Plus I really don't want to go through the hassle of shipping seats. If you have a friend or family down here send them over and they can take these for free. I do have the manual tracks specific for the gbody buckets I could be talked out of but I spent 160 for those. I am not going to give those away.
Thanks! I wish I was closer for sure. Unfortunately, OR an WA is not the hot bed of GM parts. It looks like I will need to hit some swap meets or be happy with the worn out bench for a while longer.

I will do that, and thanks. I guess it was the next generation of FWD cars that did away with the bench seats, and not G Body.

I will keep my eyes peeled for the right set. I would have to pay a welder. This is all for my wife as she doesn't really like the bench at 4'11" adjusted to my 6' frame. There is no urgency as long as I don't mind going to shows and swap meets alone.

In my 88 CSC I replaced the factory bucket seats with manual, gray cloth Recaros. They are very comfortable. They have blow up lumbar supports.
