I'm not talking about the rear bearing cap if that's what you mean, the rear seal is installed into an aluminium housing that is bolted to the block with 4 bolts, there is a gasket inbetween the housing and block

I'm learning something new here.
I cant even picture this housing that you are talking about.
2 pc rear seal right?

have you got a 2 piece rear or a 1 piece?....if it's a 2 piece then disregard my posts..

Its a 2-piece.
I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old with bad coughs and fevers. I haven't slept in days so you had me thinking that there was a part on my motor that I had never seen. LOL.

I just assumed it was a one piece since they are the most common ones

I always thought the opposite. There was a reason i went with the 2-pc but who knows what it was now. Could have been as simple as cost and sticking with what came on a 1971 4-bolt 010 block.

"I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old with bad coughs and fevers. I haven't slept in days" Welcome to the pleasures of parenthood. My kids had the constant ear infections. Thankfully they eventually grow up and the REAL problems begin. :blam:

Coughs, colds, fevers, ear infections, lack of sleep.... i wouldn't trade it for anything.

I still have had a chance to look under the car while its running to try and pinpoint the leak. im hoping tomorrow or Saturday.

I was able to install my new headliner. Wow, what a difference that makes.

A week later and still don't really know where the oil is coming from but I think it is getting worse.
The engine builder and I ran it for about 5 minutes today and it was spewing oil.
I would say 1.5 Litres or Quarts on the garage floor.
This isn't a leak, this is spraying oil.
I do believe it is not the oil filter, the oil pan or the rear main seal. The back of the block above the bellhousing is dry so it isn't coming from the oil pressure port or the back of the intake.
We started late so we didnt have time to drop the transmission but that is the plan this week and we are leaning towards the cam plug. Nothing else would explain the amount of oil and oil pressure was still around 70lbs so i doubt it was oil galley plugs.

Anyway, just keeping people up to date on what I find. Someone may have seen something similar before or someone in the future may read this thread with the same problem.
