I'm mostly done on my 2jz regal. If I had it to do over again I would do a 4.2 from a trailblazer with a big turbo. It's bigger than the 2jz, it bolts directly to a 4l60, it's about as long as a LS, the later versions made close to 300hp without a turbo, you can buy a used trailblazer for about as much as you would spend just on a 2jz. Aaaannnd.... no one has done it.

0813171733d.jpg Sage advice, thanks!
I'm still up in the air with the drivetrain. Definitely starting with a small block for now and as my budget allows, will build the 2J.
I installed a new headliner yesterday, but haven't done much Besides clean it up so far. 🙁

i will keep posting info on mine as i build it. just let me know if you need any info and i will help out where i can

Thanks! I actually work in Vernon NJ, way up at the top of the state.
I have found a SBC with a turbo350 just to drop in it and drive for now, but I am still aiming at a 2JZ swap.
The forum seems pretty informative, looking forward to being an active member.
Oh great let's see if you catch more sh*t from people for running a sbc or 2jz. Just go with ls ... Oh wait

No matter what I put in it, somebody will complain. Luckily, nobody's opinion of what motor I'm running matters to me except mine.
I'm not out to race it, or run it, I'm building a cruising car. Hell, if it does 75 on the highway and runs dependably, I'll be happy.
If the 2jz build happens, then I might take it to the track.

yea. everyone always has something to say about how your build isnt good enough, or wont make as much power, or is too complicated, or too expensive. but it really all comes down to what you want out of it and are you happy with putting in the work to make it like you want. because at the end of the day. its your car. that you drive.

take my car for example. its not a gm engine or gm electrical. so i get sh*t about it all the time. but being a daily is my number one priority. so i get cool daily driver things that most g bodies dont have, auto climate control a/c, remote power locks with key fob roll down windows, electric telescopic steering column. i did what most cant or wont do. think outside the box. so if you plan on doing a 2jz in a monte, go for it. think outside the box and make your car what you have always wanted it to be.

You built a 1-off g-body. Anybody giving u shot about it is jealous, plain n simple. Because you have to care for it to matter!
I think your TRexus is awesome, and waaaaay more involved than just a motor swap. You have my respect and my gratitude for sharing your info.
Happy cruising, and don't sweat the haters!
