my worst nightmare has come true.. after many hours of hard work I finally got the engine in and all bolts on and tight. Until i got to the torque converter. The bolt holes on the flexplate don't line up!! worst part is i compared the new flexplate to the old one and they were the same! Im at a loss..

That sucks man, what Transmission do you have? Could you try the flexplate from the old engine?

Most flexplates have two sets of holes, one set a little larger circumference than the other, try to rotate the engine a little and they should line up.

x2. sweet project tho man, hope u figure it out 8)

Went to go start the new engine up today and realized my throttle bracket no longer works for this application. Im sure someone here has run into the same problem. Just wondering how I can make this work, does edelbrock or another company sell new brackets for this?

Head to O'Reilly, Advance or Autozone and they've got a Mr Gasket universal throttle adapter for around 20.00. Should be somewhere in the "chrome" section.

I went to start it up today and it cranked and cranked but no real progress. A few sputters but it couldnt keep going after the key was off. Just wondering if anyone has any tips or ideas of things i might have missed. Thanks

never mind, I got it started the other day and it ran amazing, firing on all 8 and timing was right on. Everything was great until i noticed the puddle of oil under my engine. Its coming out the back and I think its the rear main seal. Maybe I didn't install it correctly? im not sure but this means I have to put it back on the stand and tear it apart again doesn't it? and running it for about a minute wont ruin my cam will it?

Is it is a two piece rear main seal block or one piece? No man you will be fine. Leaking oil isn't going to hurt your engine as long as you didn't run it out of oil. But before you think it is the crank seal check the back of your intake real good. Leaks at the front and back of intake are common.
