ok, back to this again, i got my spring kit i put the lightest springs in, i put it in, set my timing at 650 to 12 degrees advanced and the my total advance is 23, and it pops back through the carb sometimes, what do i got going on? puting them springs in seemed to have changed everything ALOT

do you have all your wires on right and are they separated....if they are then check in the distributor and look for any indication in the cap of a problem of misfiring and take a look at the rotor to make sure you didn't damage it

total timing at 23 sounds to far retarted to me Id would at least run it up to 30 believe it or not I was able to get 38 out of my built 350

i had it at 32 but it just seemed way to advanced at idle, it seems to be running pretty good at what i have it at, its at 12 at idle which is 650 and 23 at about 3600, i really wish my spec sheet i got with my cam had all that on it its kind of anoying always messing with it, it seems good and then i go to start it later and it runs like crap it seems, i dont think my car likes me too much. 23 seemed retarded to me too. if i have it at 32 what should it be at idle? i swear it was about 16 if i remember right

total timing at 30-32 is with vac line connected if idle to high turn down carb idle or lean it out. set timing first then set carb also ignition timing has nothing to do with cam timing

yeah i know that, the sheet has a spot for suggested idle and vaccum and what not but its just got dashed lines... i guess ill mess with it a little more tomorrow :blam: also my advance curve is set to the shortest. (it does seem to run better the way i have it right now) theres no pinging or anything. Before i did all this my total timing with the vaccum advanced dissconected and with the port plugged and with a little bet longer advance curve was at 33 and about 10-11 at idle, and when it was cold ran horrible. popped pinged and backfired from the exhaust. (after it warmed up it did a little better, no backfiring thru the exhaust anymore anyways. (all my wires are seppereated, there brand new along with the distributer/cap and nothing is damaged)

If your vaccum advance is not hooked up thats not total timing. total timing is just that advanced. if you set total timing at 33 without the vaccum advance hooked up you were still 10-12 degrees retarted.

timing does not cause it to backfire or pop...if it's not inductive firing through the wires and there is no problem with the cap or rotor then check your plugs to make sure none are cracked and check to make sure you have the wires going to the right plugs
