Still have a charcoal canister? I thought they went one place....

Ohh and chasing stock harness pins is a pure joy isn't it

Yeah, the emissions gestapo up here are bad and will get worse. Heat and emissions compliance were a must for this build.

Then it was time to run 8 gauge wires for the ground and power... only one problem: I ain't got no maxi fuse holders in stock. So I made one out of some maxi-sized female spade connectors I robbed from a fuse block. Should keep the car from burning down if there is a short.
Is that maxi for the fuel system or a main power lead for the car?

Just the power steering pump.

There are a bunch of other unused maxi fuses in the fuse block I added - unfortunately they had the right sized fuse, but the wrong gauge wire.

What a debacle!

Fitting the reservoir was a nightmare. Trying to find a home, getting a bracket made, checking for clearance, fabbing up a line... it took forever. But, I got there.

Rewrote the tune to swap the "fans".

Then I filled it with (and spilled) PS fluid and went to prime the system. Nothing. HPTuners commands Fan #2 on no problem. Fan #1, the EPS pump, nothing. F*ck. What now?

Check for power at the connector (commanded on), nada. Then it dawns on me. Check continuity to ground. Bingo. ECM sends a ground signal. It's been a while since those synapses have fired.

Now I have to find a relay to bring power up to the exciter wire. Lunch involved a lot of swearing as I mulled over the thought of doing even more wiring in this car. Suck it up, and go dig through my spares to find something workable and grab a mini fuse holder too.

Finally. Prime the system. Toss the air filter on and take it for a spin. It's notchy. Hmmm... back to the house burp the system some more while mosquitoes devour me. Everything smooths out. Back out we go.

Very nice.

It feels natural - almost like Natasha's Camaro - and makes driving a pleasure at low speeds. This is a game changer.

Took a moment this afternoon to fart around with an idea. A few months back I ordered up some wheel adapters for the HellKitty's Racestars. So I tried them out.

Yes.

Maybe.

Nope.

A quarter inch too far out. There is a metric tonne of room on the inside.

Not to be discouraged I went for a little win and swapped out the paper windows. A little less meth-head, a little more white trash. I also finished bolting in the PS front belt - should be able to take my oldest for a spin tomorrow.

I also pulled out a really old project that my brother started a decade ago when it was decided I was going to boost it. Check out the vintage CAD template. Now that I have a TIG I can finish it. It was originally designed for a 78mm throttle body, I am stepping it up to a 90mm. Even if I don't use it, it'll make a nice discussion piece.

You better slow down she starting to look pretty sharp

Thanks, I really do enjoy building things.

I have a bulk metal order in, and should have some neat projects coming up. Pretty certain that I am actively avoiding the bodywork until Winter.

After my day in the sun my oldest made me make good on my promise to take her out in the Monte. Hard to argue with that. We got out of the subdivision and I leaned into it: Daddy? I smell burnt rubber.

No matter how much I slid the car around she didn't blink. Nice to she doesn't scare easy anymore. I did get a lecture about how loud it is.

Mostly black cars look cooler in the shade.

The wife's friend was over a few weeks back with her kids and they were dinging me to take them for a rip in the Z06. Mind you it's around 380whp, so nothing insane. Her son who was yapping up cars was dead silent when I laid into it up to the top of 3rd, pretty sure I heard his sphincter slam shut. His younger sister was egging me on to go faster. They both seemed mesmerized by the rock station that played quietly in the background too.
