Now the roof is the same colour as the 4.8's block: Plum Sh*tty Purple.

That's a lot of rust converter.

I'd rather see you with a lot of rust converter than a lot of rust..

I know I am going to knock a bit of it off when I hit it with the 40 (?) grit before laying down the finishing filler putty. But that isn't due here for a week or two and the weather is warming up - which means the snow melts and the humidity spikes... and opens the whole thing up to flash rusting.

I made my choice. 😉

Nut up or shut up time. This car isn't going anywhere without the engine connected to the transmission - this issue has sat unaddressed for months. Knowing I needed to slot the flex plate has been haunting my mind forever. And after stripping the roof I needed to start fresh on something.

So in a long moment of reflection I decided to do it properly and pull the transmission out versus trying to fiddle f*ck around with it all bolted together. Once I had it apart I realized that the LS2 flex plate wasn't going to work due to its shape, the 4.8L unit has large flat mounting pads which were easily slotted without creating stress risers.

Then I popped it all back together and put a .065" SAE washer between the converter and flex plate to get about .125" pump engagement. After buttoning up a few things this car should be mobile by the time the snow melts.

I am beside myself with that fact... it is almost inconceivable.

Somebody vandalized your flexplate!!! They put obscene graffiti on it!!!! 🤣
