Re: TPI IN 86 CUTTY

That's the thing. The harness that came with the motor, I believe, is from a 92. The number on it is 01227730 for speed density, 90-92. That's why I thought I had a 90-92. Are the computers interchangeable? Where can I find the exact month and year on the block?

Re: TPI IN 86 CUTTY

The SD ecm will be a '730 and the MAF ecm will be '165 and are not interchanbable. Here's a pic showing the differance in the ecm's. Either system is good and both have their pro's/con's.

The engine code can be identified on the pass side of the block, in front of the head.

Here's some good sites to assist you in your swap. If you have any other questions, I'll either help or get you an answer.

There are many, many other sites. These should help you get started.

Re: TPI IN 86 CUTTY

Thanx 86. I went to those websites about the codes and I got a little confused. The casting date code I have is J240(I think this means Oct 24, 1990...a little confusing). Engine block casting #14093638(86-94 350 and no other info). Engine ID code V1107UZA(and UZA suffix for '81, 350cid, 165hp, 4bbls).

How can the same block be an 86-94, 1990, and 1981? I have to be missing something. :?

Can you help me out?

Re: TPI IN 86 CUTTY

Looks like the UZA was used twice, once in 81' like you found and again in 91'. This is what I got:

UZA 91 350 Truck 210 L-05 TBI

It won't help you with what injection you got since this was originally a TBI motor. Looks like someone else put a different top end on it.

Re: TPI IN 86 CUTTY

That's what it may be, but who would go thru the trouble of putting center bolt heads on, and camaro tpi setup on old truck 350 block, then just sell it.

It would have already had center bolt heads on it from the truck. I could see someone swapping intakes and try to say it came out of a Vette or Camaro. Or it was a project they wanted to do and never finished it.

Re: TPI IN 86 CUTTY

But why does the engine block casting number say its a 86-94. Either way, guess its gonna be a Frankenstein motor. 81 block, 90-92 SD ECM, 88 GTA Serp brackets. Just hopin the guy changed the cam when he put the intake on.

The casting number means the block was used from 86-94, in many different vehicles. The suffix number gives the exact vehicle, but sometimes they were used for more than one vehicle, then you use the casting nuber to differentiate which one it is.
As you found the suffix matched an 81' but your casting doesn't. Then I found the suffix also matches to a 91', which matches your casting. So that is what it is. It's not gonna be an 81' block, easy check is the rear main seal. 81' will be two-piece while 91 will be a one-piece.
As you stated the only thing that will really matter is what cam is in it, because other than that the 91 truck block and f-body block would be the same.
