Re: TPI IN 86 CUTTY

Thanx 86. I went to those websites about the codes and I got a little confused. The casting date code I have is J240(I think this means Oct 24, 1990...a little confusing). Engine block casting #14093638(86-94 350 and no other info). Engine ID code V1107UZA(and UZA suffix for '81, 350cid, 165hp, 4bbls).

How can the same block be an 86-94, 1990, and 1981? I have to be missing something. :?

Can you help me out?

I wish I could. The block casting number shows 86-94 350. The engine ID code is Plant (V is Flint) casting date (Nov 07) which would be either an 81 or 91 block. Then the suffix shows UZA as 81 350 truck.

As was mentioned, check the rear main seal. I'm betting it's a 2 piece rear main seal.

Looks like the UZA was used twice, once in 81' like you found and again in 91'. This is what I got:

UZA 91 350 Truck 210 L-05 TBI

Just curious, where did you get this code at?

Can you post a pic of the rear of the engine?

I think I got it at chevymania.com.

Re: TPI IN 86 CUTTY

Oky, that site listed the suffix code but on one else did as a 91 also. I saved that site.

Again, look at the RMS, 2 pc is 81 and 1 pc will be 91.

Ya, it seems to be a pretty decent database. I've found some there that I couldn't anywhere else.

Re: TPI IN 86 CUTTY

The third pic you posted gave the full answer. In 81, there were no *5.7 L* engines. They were still *350*'s. So, what you have there is a good ol 91 *5.7 L* engine!

You lucky sh*t you! 1 pc RMS, and it at least has the stands for the oem hyd roller cam. I don't think the trucks had the roller cams till later years. They may not be drilled and a flat tappet cam in it but it's not hard to drill/tap for the factory spider. The rest of the block will be set up for the factory roller cam.

Note: the 1 pc RMS flywheels are differant than the 2 pc RMS motors. Keep this in mind if you have to swap these.

Congrats !!!!!!!!!!!

Re: TPI IN 86 CUTTY

Cool. I was starting to get worried. That was the only casting numbers that I didn't mention and it was the most important. So in 81 they printed the numbers "350" on the back of the block, instead of "5.7L"? So it is an SD TPI setup on a 91 Camaro motor. I guess the brackets and pulleys were changed to accommidate what the guy was using it for. Thanx guys for the help. I will be posting more pics later.

UZA suffix code indicates a 91 truck engine. Compression, cam, and heads will probably be differant. You can pull the valve covers and run the numbers. Look at the casing numbers.

An 81 350 block didn't have cubic inch cast in the block. All they had were the block casting number and the engine suffix.

As far as I know, those were the pulleys on a 91 Camaro but I think trucks used the same basic pulley arrangement. They started using the serp belt around 88 or 89. I've got them on my engine and I really like them!
