Anyhow went to cut a 1/4 coil off some 5660 Moog springs. First time ever attempting to cut coils and screwed it up. Probably should have used a 3 1/2 cut off wheel instead of the 3 inch my grinder was made for.
Anyhow leaned the cut off disc onto the lower rung of the spring and managed to cut about 1/16 inch (maybe less) gouge into it.
I take it their garbage now???

Not really. It'll work.

I've never cut a spring down, but it's not like it's going to break.

Most of the load bearing in a coil spring happens on the outer edge of the spring (not in the center of the wire) but the weight is distributed vertically through the length of the spring. You would have more to worry about if the cut were in a plate or angle iron. You shouldn't have any problems with that small a cut, especially on the top side of the coil.

Thanks guys. By the way all you who have replaced springs are you running the insulator pad on the top? That rubber pad is about 1/2 inch thick
