Dad's 62 Ford Galaxie

what are they using for air filtration, there is no dusting of black paint anywhere that I can see....amazing work....🙂
They crack the garage doors while they are spraying. Dad's window air conditioning unit is doing a lot of the filtration work. It might bother me but it's about five years old already and has some nasty looking rust on the condenser so I think the consensus is to work it rather than preserve it and when it kicks the bucket, unceremoniously replace it.
The car is looking amazing, Jared...nothing like well coordinated team work...
Thanks Jack. I think they did a great job with the body work on this side. I'm looking forward to seeing the epoxy in person. I haven't yet believe it or not. I agree, we three do make a good team.
Coming along very nicely Jared....great work!
Thanks Kevin. I appreciate it.
Looking good Jared. Glad to hear you sold the Toploader and that it's being used to restore another classic. I could have used someone to clean up the garage when I was doing my transmission rebuild. Lol.
Thanks Opie. Much appreciated. A little birdie told me about your 12 gage remodeling of your garage. LOL.
What epoxy are you using? It looks like it lays down nicely and I like that it's black
It's Shop Line, PPG's private label. We love that the car is black and not yellow. Black should be a good base for the black paint job.

What's the numbers on the can? I want to use it on my car it looks really good

Thanks man
You're welcome. I'm glad I could help. I don't think you will be disappointed with that stuff. It doesn't shine quite like the DuPont that we used at the beginning of this thread but it is good material. Who cares if it shines? We do, but you're going to sand it anyway.

Dad and Sean had a good weekend on the Galaxie. Saturday was abbreviated as my brother had a family event that afternoon but he went over to Dad's Saturday morning and helped Dad finish the sanding of the door jamb and rocker. Dad had been working on it during the week and had gotten quite a bit done. He pulled the passenger side window and wing window. He did this so we could replace the outer dew sweep and replace the weatherstrip for the wing window. He also wanted a chance to respray the inside top of the door. Here's a couple of pics of the prep...

I think the plan moving forward is to get the passenger front fender back on the car and then work on breaking down the passenger vent window and replacing the rubber in it. I will likely be involved in that. Then we'll get both windows back in the passenger door. I need to get on the overhaul of the second Toploader because I think we will be working on the Gear Vendor's conversion after that. Thanks for following along. I'll keep updating this thread as we make progress.

Looking good, Jared.
Kudos to the team...
It's moving right along...Once again, well coordinated team work.
Thanks Jack. I've said it before, but I'll say it again. I really appreciate how you always have something good to say. What a great place this is with all these great guys. I'm really glad I found this forum and joined.

Sean and I took a little trip to Dallas on Friday to see a show and came back Saturday so we didn't help Dad with the Galaxie this weekend but Dad kept working on it and made good progress. There was a small area on the front edge of the door, inside the door jamb that didn't get any paint when he and Sean painted the jamb. Dad got the car taped back up and touched up that area....

That's a lot of blue tape! I think Sean is starting to rub off on Dad. Dad also got the fender back on the car with the help of our step-mom...

At last! The entire car is in black epoxy primer. There are no eye-sore body flaws. We may have a few small spots to fine tune but the body work is substantially complete. We are gearing up to replace the rubber in the vent window on the passenger side. Some of you know this story already but I'm going to go ahead and put it in this thread. Until maybe a year ago, the vent window rubber for this car was not available. It was available for a convertible and it was available for a sedan but not for a hard top. I called Steele Rubber products and inquired about the possibility of getting the rubber put into production. The fellow I spoke to didn't seem too enthusiastic at first but told me to send him a decent example and send him some pictures of the cars the rubber would fit and they would look into it. Dad found a vent window assembly on eBay and bought it. We cut the front run track off of it basically flush with the bottom of the window frame to make shipping it easier. We shipped it to Steele Rubber Products along with some pictures of 62 and 63 Galaxie, 2-door hard tops with the boxtop roofline. I also included a letter. It took about 2 years but Steele prototyped the weatherstrips and put them into production. We let them keep the sacrificial vent window frame and vent window glass for their use (what were we going to do with it) and they sent us a free set of weatherstrips. Dad had looked and wanted these weatherstrips since the early 90's so it felt like a pretty good accomplishment that because of us, they were put into production.

The weatherstrips are secured in the frames with some special rivets. There is a Youtube video out there where a lady changes the seals on a 62 Sunliner (convertible). It looks like she uses standard pop rivets but you never get a good look at them. Today while we were having lunch with dad for Father's day, I was able to find the correct 'tube rivets' and the tool to both remove them and set them. Hopefully we have them by next weekend. Dad had to seal his vent windows shut with strip caulk until now because the rubber in the frames was petrified and whistled when you drove the car. Dad is excited at the prospect of having operating vent windows so I'm excited to.

I still haven't gotten started on the build up of the second Toploader 4 speed, but I'll get going on it soon. Well, that's it for now. Hopefully I'll have a good update for you guys next weekend. Thanks for following along.
