How is it for power? Even though the 6.5 TD had many issues, power was much better than the 6.2. I have no idea why GM put the 700R4)4L60E in all the 1/2 ton version's of their trucks, maybe better acceleration and better overdrive gear vs the 4L80E?
It's hard to say my first few test drives the water in fuel light was on and it was chugging a bit. When I changed the filter and took it for a ride New year's day I really couldn't get on it with all the other cars on the road. I will say it accelerated probably better than the crew cab but that truck is 10500lbs and this one is a lot lighter. I rugged it on the dirt road next to my house from a dig and it spun bolth wheels. Another thing is I'm not shore that hairdryer showed up to the party I don't hear it spooling like my old dirtymax .... I miss that truck... Anyway the new alternator and shocks came so I'm going to try and do that tomorrow.

Oh I forgot to mention the old filter weighed about 4lbs and had a milky mix in one of the ports on the back and clean fuel in the other 4 and it feels like it has a pritty low gear in the rear first gear is done quick

You may not hear the turbo spool up. They don't get to whipping around and throwing down 30+ psi of boost like modern diesels do. I'll bet it's in the 5-7psi range like idi navistar engines with aftermarket turbos. They make a difference in power output but it's no common rail Cummins.

It was raining again this morning so I stol the batteries out of the crew cab and drove the suburban out to the shop in Jackson to work on it indoors. On the way there i blew a cooler line but I made it. Turns out someone put an aftermarket trans cooler in it and ran the lines against the side of the radiator and the sharp edges on the radiator support. So I pulled the grill and replaced the line and remounted the cooler so it won't rub. My next mission was to swap out the alternator and it worked out this time it's charging now. Then I took on the front shocks. I did the passenger side front first no problem took off a rusty oily blown out shock that looked like it was blue at some time many years ago. Then I went to the driver's side took off the wheel and found a rusty Yellow shock only attached to the control arm fully compressed and hanging in there with the mount stud still in the top eye. Apparently it got loose in the frame many years ago and pulled out. The hole was a little egged so I just used some washers and installed a new one Eric had in stock. With the new shocks in the front I decided to spin it around and check out the back. There junk too but they don't want to come easy. I got the nuts off on the driver's side but the bottom bolt and the top stud are seized in the bushing collars. It was getting late and I don't feel like looking for new hardware so I put the nuts back on and I'll reconvene tomorrow.

charging is one hurdle to overcome and you did it. Making power, smooth ride ( shocks ), are all afterthoughts if it's just going to be a DD. So I am assuming it was the alternator and not the batteries you swapped in that were the problem ? Or is it just a guess ?

I have had several 6.2s and loved everyone of them. You will not get more than 6-8 psi out of the turbo. The motor won't like more than that anyway. They are "high" compression diesel motors, like the Ford IDIs. More than the 6-8 and you will need alcohol injection or something similar.

ATS is out of business and the company using the name now isn't affiliated. That kits is allegedly not as good as a Banks but I never noticed a difference. Banks really isn't supporting their kit either so I see no real difference at this point. The good news is the turbo can be serviced and everything else can be worked around. I have an ATS kit for my IDI so I have a source for the turbo rebuild if you need it.
